Keith, its not that ´net is swarming with good overhead shots of the minsk, but from what I have found, you have hit a good match on both the red and green color.
I found some pix in this tread: http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?129481-Aircraft-Carriers-Intensive-PIX!!/page103 showing some nice and heavy weathering and streaks on the ship.
Cheers/Jan

Won,t be doing much else for a couple of weeks as on Holidays will get back into the swing of it when I return

I am sorry I did not have a local paper to add in my start picture. All I have with me was my I-phone. So, I opened my Fox News App. The headlines are from this weekend.
This is the Trumpeter 1/144 kit which I plan to build water line as she is entering/exiting port. I just need to fine some figures to add. This is a nice kit and straight forward to build. HOWEVER!!! The instructions are horrible and if you build her full hull there will be plenty of clean up to do.

Good luck Jim, looking forward seeing your base/water for it - will it be moving or docked ?
I never really got much into the proper references, but there should be plenty of upgrade/corrections on the turret layout.
Cheers/Jan

Jan - I am going to have it moving at low speed. I have a few pictures to reference.
Bruce - I love my I-phone. My wife got her's fisrt, then I had to get one too. But I had to wait until the price dropped, I am too cheap to pay full price.

Here are a couple shots of what I hope to do. I am going to do a few other small things as well. Hopefully it will make this project be just that much better.
One things I am looking for are 1/144 Russian navy flags. I have a request into a place that makes them, maybe they will make me some.

Been doing etch and all the little bits and pieces - a slow and sometimes frustrating work...
Still to do all the washes, weathering, details touch up, the water around the hull etc - but getting closer!
cheers/Jan

Alright got some more updates to get posted. This is the first time I have used this style of base. I painted both the board and the underside of the plastic. The topside will probably just be dry brushed or given some type of wash to give it more depth.
On the hull I might open up the two areas at the arrows. I also had to trim off the lip on the underside of the hull.
Oh yeah, BZ to Bruce. I have tried all darn day to get that gallery added. I even went to my office that has a T1 connection and it kept bogging down on me.

Hello Jim,
It was a PITA to get it set up using my system's. I had to link all 3 main frames together to bull through, using dial up only. Next time it will be easier as my system will know what to do.
Cheers,
Bruce

You make good progress on the water Jim - if you have some appropriate brass to fill in those holes I agree they should be opened.
For some reason the gallery upload function plays tricks once in a while - I had a 2-3 days where every upload just timed out and nothing happened, and suddenly it went trough - peculiar...

I am thinking I can either use some bridge windows or even old railings. So far my quest for flags has come up a big fat Zero. I have time to find them.
The lower hull is painted now.

My Sovremenny is very temporarely on hold, while I construct a little special "part" of the presentation, but I hope to return shortly.

Awfully quiet in here, is everybody on vacation ??
The Sovremenny holds a special meaning for me, as back when the cold war still was hot (sounding like an old man in a rocking chair .. ) , I did some service on a home guard cutter. One of the task was surveillance of traffic in and out of the baltic sea trough the belts of Denmark, and one stormy night we encountered the Sovremenny in the strait between Fuen and Seeland.
I have been working on a copy of said cutter, the MHV 85 - Hjortø - a former minesweeper built in 1941. An solid, rugged allwood construction that only recently got stricken from the rools.
The build is all scratched in styrene and wire - total length is slightly less than 7 cm.

Some work is still needed, among other things a little cleanup on the hull, some details on the mast and chimney etc.
Comments are welcome
Cheers/Jan

Hello Jan,
Looking good.
Great looking Cutter. Did you have any weapons on Her during your service time, I do not see any on your model.
I am enjoying your build and I do like how you do your water effects.
I do not even have a model yet for the campaign.
Cheers,
Bruce

Thanks alot Bruce an Guido.
Bruce, this class used to have a 20 mm Oerlikon on the casing aft the funnel, but during renovation in the early 1980´ ties, where thay got new engines the casing was replaced an the mount for the 20 mm went with it.
It was replaced with mount along the railing for 2 M62 - the modern version of the MG 42 in 7.62 Nato.
Cheers/Jan

Jan: Excellent job!
Jim: I'm really looking forward to seeing how your waterline turns out. I've often wondered how those acrylic sheets work

Jeremy - They are really picky to work with. You have to score them enough so when you break the sheet it does not just spider all over.
When making the hole for the ship/sub you have to make it over size so it fits. I plan to back fill my gaps with a clear caulk, then add some color to it. I am hoping the color will show through and it will give the clear come depth.
I am using the same effect for my Prinz Eugen build, so this project is a test in many ways. I need to get off my lazy butt and get some more work done on the Kilo too.
