Well, I am afraid I will have to pass this one.
I came to lay the basic paint job on the hull, but all plans went awry when my wife's surgery got anticpated to...tomorrow. Nothing major but she will be in the hospital for a few days and then home but not able to do much for herself for a while, so I have to put everything on hold.

Good luck to those of you still in the race!!

Nico: Take a breather and focus on real life for a little while, I'm sure she'll appreciate you being there

Eugene: The fit of the three major hull components is killing my time. It's been nothing but filling, sanding, rescribing, filling, sanding, rescribing.....

Greetings Everyone,

My heartfelt thank you's to all of your support with my father's passing. It's been a more difficult transition than even I expected, but Life is moving on.

Nicola, my prayers to you and your wife. There is nothing more important than our loved ones!!

As I posted a few weeks ago, I actually finished my Alfa a while back, but just didn't have the heart to post any pics. So, on the eve of this Group Build's closing, I'll try to post a couple of pics, if I can remember how!!

Not making the finish line on this one.... To much to do, and have not been able to get at it for the past month. I will post pics once it is done (which should hopefully be by the end of the month!)

Hi everyone,

We have finally reached the end of this group build! I'm really glad I joined as I have learned a lot about the Russian Navy, and branched out a bit from my typical WWII ships.

This is the first time I have used an airbruch to paint a ship, and I'm really happy with it. airbrushing the phtoetch before cutting the pieces out saved so much time!

I also did a little work on opening up the hangar. Adding interior braces and a cat walk or two, and adding some piping to the outside walls.

I decided to paint it as the Varvag, since I had tons of reference pictures from the ship's visit to San Fransisco in 2010. I'm not really happy with the green on the Helo pad, so I might try to repaint it at a later date.

I opened up one of the missle launcers as well. Eventually I'll have to build a 1/700 P-5000 Bazalt missle firing out of the tube.

Eugene - What type of phone do you have? On mine (BB), I use a mini-USB connection to download photos from my phone to my computer, then print, edit, or do whatever I need with them at that point. Is it possible to do this with your phone?

Jan - FANTASTIC job!!! I'd love to see a good Build-Up Article on your Sovremenny (hint...hint...hint ) The scratchbuilt minesweeper you added really gives perspective to the display, too! Great job on the Little Friend!!

Keith - Each time I look at your Minsk, I'm amazed at the colors of the flightdeck! I never knew they were so bright! I can't imagine a US CVN with those colors!! Great job!

steve-o - Love the work you did on your Varyag! I usually do WW II subjects, too, so it's been eye-opening to watch this build. I've always loved the Look of Soviet ships, but I've never been so "up-close". Very cool designs!

Hello again!

Is it just me, or is anyone else having trouble finding the Gallery? Is there a gallery? I wouldn't mind if we just left the pictures in the forum, but I don't want to miss anything.

Seeing everyone else's work has moved my 1/700 Kirov way up in my "to build" list!

Thanks!

- Steve

Hey steve-o!

Go to the top of the page and find the "Photos" tab. Click on it and look for the Campaigns section (8 or 9 Galleries down). Click on that section. Then, when you're on the next page, click on Currently Active Campaigns. Ships of the Soviet Union is 17 Campaigns down.

Good luck!

If anyone is still having issues of any sort, please contact me via pm. This has been a fun campaign, and it's been great to see everyone's builds progressing over the course of the campaign.

Cheers

Well guys,

I can certainly use the extension!

Wife is doing good and I was able to manage some modelling over the weekend, which means I have 6 months to screw up the weathering...should be enough!

Thanks for all the support and kind words, guys, much appreciated!

Pics of my little sub soon...

Thenks Jeremy, that is very kind of you! I must say that for once I am moderately satisfied with how things went. Pictures are an experiment with lighting, so colors may somewhat have been exalted by this. I will try to get more "normal" pics as soon as I can. Oh, and I shall not forget to post pics in the gallery!

How's your Akula coming along?

Slowly, I am trying to accurately rescribe some lines and repair some minor damage to it.
