Jan: I kinda wish you showed us more pictures of the build as you progressed. There are a lot of well developed techniques being put together in your work, and I'm trying to figure out what I'm actually capable of atm....

Jim: Ok good to know, I wondered about that. I'm really curious to see how it turns out.

I am still amazede by the colorfullness of the Minsk - its a somewhat surpricing choice of colors for a naval vessel.

If your picture shows the placement on the base - then be carefull, that the ports side of the deck isn“t too parallel with the baseside, as it looks a bit "wrong" if you get my drift ?

Otherwise, nice and clean paintjob!

Jeremy - a belated thanks! - sorry for not taking more pictures - but as you say, its just application of wellknown techniques allready discribed in features on this site - I really haven“t invented anything.

Cheers/Jan

Jan just a rough placement at the moment still a lot to do, will be trying to make the water with silicon sealer instead of tin foil for this so a couple of trys to get it right i think

Time to update on my progress...

First - a picture to establish that I started after the deadline. No newspaper (haven't subscribed in years) so a pic of the hull and the website will hopefully suffice.

Been slowly working on this over the last month or so. I'm finding that building a ship is a lot different than aircraft or armour - my God, I thought that Dragon kits had lots of small, fiddly bits!

Most of the major assemblies are done, as is most of the photo-etch and I've started some of the painting.

Bridgehouse, with most of the photoetch attached. Still have to glue most of it in place, and do some final touch ups. Also have not attached the side pieces.

Foredeck - guns were replaced with aftermarket, and I have yet to install the photoetch railing

Hello Grant,
Your photo of the screen works, so you are good to "go".
I have always said that the guy that makes the Apartment Buildings in the USSR ( big and boxy) makes the superstructure for all of the major ships.
Looking good and thanks for the photo's.
Cheers,
Bruce

@ To everyone else,
Please remember to post your photo's in the gallery to get your ribbon when you get done. Thank You.
Cheers,
Bruce

Thanks Grant, I just gave it the Panzer treatment - washes, ruststreaks, highligths and drybrushing - nothing fancy just a bit more subdued than with a tank.

Greetings all

Here is my motivation and entry. It is the 1/700 Pit road Udaloy Destroyer. She will be out of box and maybe if i get the gets some lion roar PE It will be the RMS Admiral Kharmolov 606 of the Northern Fleet. I will be trying a new water method using silicone and foam. So here we go.

Ok small progress today. Base and foam are painted, silicone is laid over top of paint and outline. The outline will actually be almost a double wake as the picture i saw had it, I thought it looked cool.

Grant: The PE and metal barrels look superb! I thought about using that on my 1/700 build but realized that I'd end up driving myself bonkers trying to work with it.

Keith and Eugene: Looking good, it's nice to see those ships in some "water"

Eugene sorry for late replie on the deck colour myself and Jan had a similar disccusion and I had to mix my own colour from Tamiya hull red Tamiya flat Yellow and Humberol rust red. I just played about with these and a few drops of white until i was happy with it to match my referance material and still have some left in a jar for the next Soviet ship in the stash.
This is what I say is finnished unless any one has a suggestion for me ( Jan ) Minsk all done.

Grant: After looking at the PE on your build again I think I am going to hold on my original build until I can source some PE and gun barrels. Ships just look too good with the PE added that it's a shame to build them without it.

Looks like I'm going with a Sub now, probably will try the 1/350 K-335 Gepard sub from Bronco. I just hope someone will release some easy to use corrections for it, otherwise I will probably have to build it box stock to meet the campaign deadline.

Keith: Your Minsk has come out really nicely, I'm sure that the pilots really appreciated the large bright green landing patch I agree with Jan on the weathering, she could really use some

David: Great choice!

I've been looking at that kit - looks really good. I'd really like to see more Soviet era subs, especially some of the November and Kilo classes.

Hope to get back to my kit this weekend. Life has kept me busy these last couple of weeks, and away from the workbench.

Ok here is an update from me, go the deck painted, its a mix of black, hull red, and dark ghost gray. It is close to my ref pic, and the upper deck is red, yellow, dark ghost gray, and hull and superstrucure is Neutral Gray. Im not happy with the paint though it is kinda grainy, it is all hand painted. Im working on the armament now and masts. So here we go critiques welcome.

I hear ya, it's been keeping me from the workbench with a vengeance.

The kit looks very nice and I'm not expecting any problems. It's probably the most simple kit I've seen released from Bronco. It also gives you the option of having the communications array retracted.
Based on the In Box review on this sight, it looks like there are some inaccuracies regarding the K-335, but it should be passable as an alternative vessel.
