Here are a couple of ribbon ideas I had.

I haven’t submitted them to Osprey yet, thought I’d see what you all thought first. They’re kind of hard to read at ribbon size, though:

I’m certainly open to ideas from the rest of you!! Remember, if we use their logo, Osprey wants us to include their name as well. Let's see what you've got!

Good to hear they like the idea. Osprey is a great partner here at Kitmaker, so let us ALL be sure to make this a great campaign.

Man, I love this site! Gary Kato had a couple of possible ribbon designs:

And Pat McGrath suggested an actual header from a Duel advertisement that I cut back and made a ribbon from:

I quite like that one and Osprey should too. They’re all better than the original ones I made! What do you all think?

I would try to stick close to the Osprey style ribbon.

It has been suggested, with justice!, that my modification of Pat’s design was good but still a bit hard to see. I tried taking the shading out and just making it white on black, how does this look?

OK, some variations on the ribbon theme proposed by Pat McGrath have been making the rounds. Here are the three I’ve come up with. Let me know what you like and I’ll send it off to Osprey for approval, then maybe we’ll have a ribbon for our campaign!!

1.
2.
3.

Hi michael,

I like the style, perhaps No.3. one small point, perhaps a bit of color rahter than just grey.

Ospery don't seemt to have a "signature" colour, but the banner on their website is a sort of light olive green.

just a thought.

This volume would really tempt me - especially with all these new destroyers in 1:350 coming from Dragon ...

#3 looks good.

Since somebody has already "claimed" the S-Boat vs MTB, I think I will go with the IJN vs USN Cruisers.

Jim,

While I know I'd love to see a couple of cruisers from you, more than one person/team can use a given book as a basis, no limit there!

Well, I went with the lighter, shaded ribbon as I worked hard to get it to look like that, so there!

It appears to have met with approval from Osprey, who has given us a very nice plug on their Blog:

http://www.ospreypublishing.com/blog/Earn_your_Osprey_Duel_Campaign_Ribbon/

I guess we’re official now for sure!

Looking through the list of titles, it looks like I will have to resort to doing aircraft. I would love to do the Alabama vs kearsarge....but the time and money would be prohibative. The dreadnaught would be right up my alley, but as I do 350 scale and there are no British (unless the Dreadnaught herself would qualify) kits yet. But i will wait and see before signing up. i have a Bf 110 and a Phantom kit in the stash as well an Albatross so there are 3 possible 'Duels" i can do

I saw the Osprey post today on Facebook, so it does seem we are going global now. Just remember everyone, this is a great way to spread with word about Kitmaker and to also help out Osprey. They are a very helpful vendor and work well with us.

Have fun and enjoy!

Here’s the current enlistee list with book (if chosen) and current KitMaker site (if known):

Remco/4-BO-Green: La-5/7 vs. Fw 190 with Paul, on Aeroscale
Aaron/611_sqd, on AeroScale
Bob/Bigrip74
Pat/exer: Panther vs. Sherman, on Armorama
Jim/goldenpony: USN Cruiser vs. IJN Cruiser, on ModelShipwrights
Duncan/Klinker: Sherman Firefly vs. Tiger with Jeremy, on Aeroscale
Paul/ludwig113: Hurricane I vs. Bf 110, on Aeroscale
Michael/MichaelSatin: Can’t make up my mind yet!
Jan/MrMox: U-Boats vs. Destroyer Escorts on ModelShipwrights
Burak/Panzerace
Paul/ppawlak1: La-7 vs. Fw 190 with Remco, on Aeroscale
Simon/RedDuster: E-Boat vs. MTB, on ModelShipwrights
Jesper/SGTJKJ: P-51 vs. Fw 190 with Sean, on Aeroscale
Phill/WARDUKWNZ: T-34/85 vs. M26 Pershing, on Armorama
Sean/windysean: P-51 vs. Fw 190 with Jesper, on Aeroscale

Don’t worry about it if you haven’t chosen a Duel yet, of course. We’re still several months off, after all! On the other hand, I know there are several people who expressed strong interest but haven’t enlisted yet (not naming names here [Jeremy!]) so if you want in, be sure to sign up!

And as we bid a fond farewell to August, an updated list:

Remco/4-BO-Green: La-5/7 vs. Fw 190 with Paul, on AeroScale
Aaron/611_sqd, on AeroScale
Damien/AusieReg: Seafire vs. A6M Zero with Luciano on AeroScale
Bob/Bigrip74
Pat/exer: Panther vs. Sherman, on Armorama
Jim/goldenpony: USN Cruiser vs. IJN Cruiser, on ModelShipwrights
Duncan/Klinker: Sherman Firefly vs. Tiger with Jeremy, on AeroScale
Jessica/Jessie C.: SPAD VII vs. Albatros D.III, on AeroScale
Luciano/Littorio: Seafire vs. A6M Zero with Damien on AeroScale
Paul/ludwig113: Hurricane I vs. Bf 110, on AeroScale
Michael/MichaelSatin: Centurion vs. T-55 (probably), watching all sites
Jan/MrMox: U-Boats vs. Destroyer Escorts on ModelShipwrights
Burak/Panzerace
Paul/ppawlak1: La-7 vs. Fw 190 with Remco, on AeroScale
Simon/RedDuster: E-Boat vs. MTB, on ModelShipwrights
Jesper/SGTJKJ: P-51 vs. Fw 190 with Sean, on AeroScale
Andy/Torchy: Spitfire vs. Bf 109 (he’s doing a 109, looking for a partner), on AeroScale
Jeremy/vonHengest: Sherman Firefly vs. Tiger with Duncan, on Armorama
Phill/WARDUKWNZ: T-34/85 vs. M26 Pershing, on Armorama
Sean/windysean: P-51 vs. Fw 190 with Jesper, on AeroScale

Don’t worry about what I’ve got you listed for here, you’re not tied down at all. We still have 4 months to start and if you change your mind about what you want to build, it’s no problem (though you should, of course, clear it with your partner first if you have one!) Meanwhile Andy on AeroScale is planning a 1/32 Bf 109E-3 and is looking for a Spitfire I or II partner, if you’re interested.

Shaping up well, I’m really looking forward to it. Now I just need to decide what I want to do! At this moment I’m leaning towards the Centurion vs. T-55, Golan 1973. I have the AFV Centurion Sho’t Kal just barely started and the Tamiya T-55 still a blank slate. If, however, I somehow score a Wingnut Wings 1/32 Albatros D.V, my course could change rapidly. Hmm, we’ll see…

If you haven’t signed up yet we'd love to have you, go here!

Interesting post on Osprey's Blog about our campaign:

"Mark Lardas 24-Aug-2011 22:53
I guess writing two Duels doesn't count.

Seriously though, anyone (or team) that qualifies for a Duel campaign ribbon based on the Duels that I wrote that wrote, deserves something above and beyond that because you have to make at least two full-rigged ships or two barques. I'd be willing to send something as a token of my appreciations for reader loyalty. Get in touch with Osprey and give them your contact information. (You guys at Osprey will pass it on to me, right?)

I don't have that big a budget, and this is coming from Mark Lardas, not Osprey, Ltd, but I will do this. For the first two ribbons, I will send an autographed copy of my upcoming Duel (Bonhomme Richard vs. Serapis). (One book for each project -- if it is a team, you guys battle out how to divide it.) For the next 48, I will send one of the interior illustrations I used in the book -- the 8x10 print I sent Osprey. If there are over 50 ribbons awarded I will send a letter of thanks. Date is based on the day you notify Osprey.

I will be surprised if I get past the books to the photos. I mean that takes making two sailing frigates or two steam-sloops-of-war."

In case any of you ship types are thinking of tackling the Constitution vs. Guerriere or Alabama vs. Kearsarge duels!

I posted a reply on the blog over at Osprey thanking them for letting us do this and a list of the builds so far.

It would be killer if we could get some more people to take part.

Well, the first of the year (and the start of our campaign) is 2 ¾ months away, so here’s a bump to see if we can get some more people interested! So far we have 25 members but more are always welcome. Here’s the list of those who have posted what they plan to build so far:

Remco/4-BO-Green: La-5/7 vs. Fw 190 with Paul, on AeroScale
Rob Storey/29Foxtrot: Camel vs. Dr.1 looking for partner on AeroScale
Aaron/611_sqd, on AeroScale
Damien/AusieReg: Seafire vs. A6M Zero with Luciano on AeroScale
Bob/Bigrip74
Pat/exer: Panther vs. Sherman, on Armorama
Jim/goldenpony: USN Cruiser vs. IJN Cruiser, on ModelShipwrights
Duncan/Klinker: Sherman Firefly vs. Tiger with Jeremy, on AeroScale
Jessica/Jessie C.: SPAD VII vs. Albatros D.III, on AeroScale
Luciano/Littorio: Seafire vs. A6M Zero with Damien on AeroScale
Paul/ludwig113: Hurricane I vs. Bf 110, on AeroScale
Michael/MichaelSatin: Centurion vs. T-55 with Sven and SE5a vs. Albatros D.V, watching all sites
Jan/MrMox: U-Boats vs. Destroyer Escorts on ModelShipwrights
Burak/Panzerace
Paul/ppawlak1: La-7 vs. Fw 190 with Remco, on AeroScale
Simon/RedDuster: E-Boat vs. MTB, on ModelShipwrights
Jesper/SGTJKJ: P-51 vs. Fw 190 with Sean, on AeroScale
Sven/Sarjacek: Centurion vs. T-55 with Michael on Armorama
Trevor/Snorri23: P-47 vs. Bf 109G/K, interested in a partner, on AeroScale
Andy/Torchy: Spitfire vs. Bf 109 (he’s doing a 109, looking for a partner), on AeroScale
Alcatraz Logan/vertigo: unknown on Aeroscale
Jeremy/vonHengest: Sherman Firefly vs. Tiger with Duncan, on Armorama
Phill/WARDUKWNZ: T-34/85 vs. M26 Pershing, on Armorama
Sean/windysean: P-51 vs. Fw 190 with Jesper, on AeroScale

Looks like a very interesting spread! Andy has indicated on AeroScale that he’d like to do a Bf 109E and is looking for a partner to do a Spitfire I/II and Rob has a Fokker Dr.1 and would love a buddy with a Sopwith Camel. Also Sven is going to do a Syrian T-55 and needs an Israeli Centurion from 1973 (I’ve volunteered to do this, but if anyone else is into it I’m willing to step aside since I have my own pair I’d like to build too.) Anyone want to jump into any of these? Pedro and Trevor, do you have a deal? If so Pedro needs to enlist.

Thanks all!!

Michael

I am playing with an idea for a 1/1250 dio of one of the battles off Guadacanal. I had totally forgotten tha RADM Scott was one of the commanders there. So, that seemed like a unique project to try.

I served on the USS Scott, hence the tie in.

I've got a Revell 1/72 Snowberry Corvette and 1/72 Type-VIIC. I was planning as converting the Snowberry to the HMCS Spikenard and the VIIC as the U-136, the U-Boat that sank her off Iceland.

I've only gotten the two hull haves done for the Spikenard and just am forever looking for time to do more.

For a 1 year timeline, I'd like to use this build as an excuse to focus on this project.

The Osprey book is DE's vs U-Boats but could get a waiver on this bit? I do have a Revell Buckley I plan to do as a Captains Class but I'd like to get Corvette and U-Boat done together because they're the same scale.
