Pretty new to the ship building side of the hobby but Michael i am learning a lot from reading this blog as i was reading a book that involved dreadnoughts and made me look at ships instead of my normal fair of planes and armour.
this model will be added to the must do collection shortly!
So would you say that the WEM and wooden deck for the Zvezda kit fit pretty well?

Hi Alastair,
The wooden deck is from Artwox and was made for this version of Trumpeter's Dreadnought which is 1907 so it fits very well. I think the other is 1915.
The WEM photoetched set is for Zvezda kit and is quite usable but not completely so you have to decide whether the 50 pounds I paid was worth it.(i thought it was but i was experimenting with it.) I think if you wanted a tailored made etch set you could pick the Zvezda kit (see Red Duster's fantastic build using WEM and Pontos). I don't think there are any dedicated aftermarket sets for the Trumpy dreadnought.

Thanks Julian, I appreciate all the support I am getting for this build.
One of the slight oddities of this kit is Trumpeter give you all the boats that were fitted to the 1907 version, but they don't mention where half of them go and the rest not necessarily in the right place. I have been trying to create a cradle for the suspended whalers. Having not told you where to put them, of course they dont provide anything to hang them with from the davits/derricks(?)
The photo doesn't show it well but it is made of thinly sliced masking tape painted a canvas colour. The oars are from the WEM set which provide a nice touch though they only come in one size and are too big for some of the boats.

great work with the Davits, Surprised Trumpeter missed that those boats are very prominent in pics / drawings of the ship, detail all round the bridge looking good.

Hi Alastair,
The Artwox deck just drops into place on this model. You don't have to remove any details from the kit. I haven't used them before so I don't know if that applies to all their decking. The only point to remember is to remove all the cut sections before you remove it from the backing, especially the very small pieces.
And I agree, they look great on.

Thanks Kev, your comments are much appreciated.
I have completed nearly all the steps in the instructions and now summoning the fortitude for putting on "miles" of railings and some finally rigging. I think it may be a two stage completion, complete the railing for the Trumpeter Build campaign and then think about the final photo-etch details which I have rationalised to myself as not part of the campaign since they weren't in the box!

Michael, she's looking really, really good! Those boats can be a pain, but they add a lot to a ship model; I find the boats are one of the first things non-ship modeling people comment on, so it pays to give them extra attention!

Thanks Tim, you make me feel guilty mate, taking shortcuts!
So I got to it and stuck oars in all the boats that would hold them and added shafts and props to the barges. You're right, it looks much better.

The boat is now finished forward of the X and Y turrets.
apologies for the quality of the photos. Something else I can work on, but not now.
what is left is the railings from the mid-turrets back and...they are big ands...I still haven't decided what to use for rolled up netting plus the aerials. I have some spreaders from WEM that are not the same but will give the general effect. I just have to figure out how.

Excellent work Michael, sharp, crisp and clean. The rigging is magic and I love the idea of using Bob's buckles for the torpedo-net booms.

Thank you all for your kind comments.
I have been rushing to finish her for the Trumpeter campaign which I see was extended but that didn't help since I am away.
So I have used all the bits in the box (and some)and completed the suggested 46 steps. Some of these pictures I posted over at Armorama. The eagle eyed among you will note no furled nets or aerials. They have to come later but the rest is done.
I am off to London for a week to see what I can find to bring back home. Along with everyone else, the new Airfix Typhoon looks tasty. Anyway it will be easier to slip past the gatekeeper than a 1/200 Missouri.

Your Dreadnaught is a beauty! She has never been a vessel on my "must build" list, but your build has made me look towards her with new interest. If only there were more time...

Excellent Build Michael, have fun in London. I have my Typhoon pre-ordered from Axel's Modelshop in Germany. June release they are promising and I am looking forward to this model.
Don't forget to post photos of this build when you have added the nets. I am curious to see how that looks.
