Ahoy Russell
Fantastic work I like the work on the masts what a nice touch.
You look to be a brave man to be doing that work on the paravanes they look pretty good though.
Cheers
Sean

Nice turnings on the lathe, Russell
Now, I know who to call when I need some mast work done.
I have to admit, I can't take credit for the lathe work Harry
A work colleague of mine turns them up for me. It's cheating I know, but I consider it similar to after market gear, but with a more personal touch

Thanks mate. Yup, let me tell you the paint was peeling off the walls with the expletive laden language that was coming out

That mast is going to look great when you are finish with it. The props are sweet lookin. Can't stand thick propellers so I also sand the edges thin.

lots of fiddly elements in the masts, so I hope my butter fingers don't make a mess of things

The mast looks a lovely bit of work. It's great you have someone who can fashion them on a lathe because the brass is much better than the styrene especially once you start rigging.

There's nothing like a turned brass mast hey Michael?

I'd love to be able to get my own lathe, but the cost for a decent one is prohibitive to say the least...

Hi Russ,
that's amazing work on your Prinz, the paravanes, the mast - your attention to detail, and your never ending patience - well, some
from time to time is permitted, however, you keep going on with an unparalleled accuracy that is just fantastic.

Even if one or another glacier is passing by, don't let them disturb you!!
Cheers mate,

Jan, you are way too kind mate! Thank you!

You know, if it wasn't for all you guys chiming in with support over the last 4 or so years, I think this one would've hit the shelf of doom some time ago. So I thank you all for your encouragement!

Update time, 11th September 2017

Another great update Russell.
It feels like the build has changed a gear as it gathers momentum to the finish.
Again very nice progress indeed.
Cheers

I wish that were true about the momentum

I will be taking a short break soon to complete (I hope) a Typhoon for the Airfix IV campaign, then come back to the Prinz.

Taking it in small doses, seems to be the trick with PE

The brass masts nearly departed the ship last night after a clumsy maneuver on my part. There was lots of
 afterwards!
afterwards! All in all though, using 2 part epoxy to glue them on was a wise move and no serious damage was incurred. Just a small seem that had been joined by CA needed re-adhering. If I had used CA to affix the masts it might have been a different story.

Hi Russ,
definitely looks cool with the masts up and some propulsion!! You're heading in the right direction, mate!!
- and again and again the crispness of your work ist astonishing, even looking at the macro pics (I was a little bit terrified of mine from the Hood - looks nice to the naked eye, but those evil macro lenses...)
Cheers,
Jan

I know, right? Those macro lenses are 'evil'

Just a small update tonight, aft rangefinders on, aft paravane racks and some more railing. Another one where the WEM railing designed for the hangar deck is too long, but i figured it would be worse if i tried to shorten it than live with it being a bit too long...

Hi Russ,
The Prinz is really coming along! I didn't even notice the small hangar deck railing discrepancy until you pointed it out, but it is those cool little details like the paravanes that keep the eye happily roving over the model.
