Good to see you back online Mark-it's been a while.

The Prinz sure did have some nice lines Michael.

Mrs E reckons i'm bonkers, but i don't think i'm crazy, well, not yet anyway. So maybe i'll stick with the WEM PE for this build.

Ah to drill, or not to drill... That is the conundrum. Maybe I'll leave them as is-it's never bothered me in the past so why start now hey?

Not sure I'd ever get a 1/200 past Mrs E, not just on size, but the treasurer within might spring forth and block supply

I'll be back dating to 1941 in line with my idea of building a 'series' of ships centred around the Bismarck episode... Hopefully I can get it right... Any thoughts on good reference material would be appreciated.

In all honesty I don't mind having to do the filler/sanding required to get a neat finish... it's kinda therapuedic

Rumaging through the kit last night and found a set of Master Model barrels that I had completely forgot I had bought. So they'll be going on too!


Russell if you want a good reference Book, look out for the Kagero Book on her. I have several in the Series and they are brilliant. They give you fold out Charts in 1-350 for Painting reference and Line Drawings in 1-350 also....Cheers mark

After a bit of a hiatus thanks to 'real life intrusions' I'm starting to get moving again. Hooray!

But, before I post pictures, can anyone tell me if the Prinz wore his stern eagle at the time of the Bismarck episode in May '41?

This was before he was torpedoed and lost the original stern, or so I believe

Have you ever tried to move with some shipmodels and a lot of planes?
My book is btw from the smae Paul Schmalenbach whose test is on that webpage. He was Prinz Eugens former gunnery officer and on board during Rheinübung until the end of the war.

@Julien: I think Graf Spee's eagle was still on board because she was already at sea at the stat of the war.

Hi Tom, not quite, but we did have to move out for a while, whilst we had our floors done, and we put everything in storage. The most stressful part was moving and safely storing the models, so I certainly do not envy you

I found some large boxes filled with loose foam pack the best solution... but then i did not have to worry about the boxes not being vertical and not crushed.

Is the book in English? Perhaps you could let me know the title and i'll see if i can scrounge a copy from somewhere

Daniel Moscatelli knows the guy who salvaged it. You can find lots of film on youtube on this subject.

Thanks Julian, i'll have to pay the youtubes a visit!

And finally, some progress... at last:

Prop shafts and struts added

Then the Trumpy shafts have been removed for later replacement with styrene extrusion. Gaps filled with CA and sanded back and checked with silver paint

and a light coat of primer to check for flaws



I've also primed the deck to allow the wood deck to adhere better to it.

Hi Russell This is the most beautiful and stylized ship of the whole WWII!!!!! His paper in the last months in Norway was fundamental for the refugees' evacuation. Incredibly it survived the WWII, taken to USA for study and tests, Led to forming part of 2 nuclear tests and also it survived!!! finish turned bell on the shore of an island product of a break of an end of dragging during the temporary one while it was towed for his scrapping, which by his high place radiation was not going to be done

The Eagle ...... the Prinz Eugen not tape-worm the eagle of stern. After the collapse of the Graf Spee in 1939 gave to itself the order to extract all the Eagles of stern of any major ship of surface. Hereby the exemplary only one of these eagles is the rescued one of the Spee for a great friend. Hector Bado. Incredibly I could touch with my hands this Eagle!!!!! Lamentably she is guarded in box in a naval dependence waiting for a long judgment against the Uruguayan condition for breach of contracts. The idea was the entire nose but the government refloated I unite all the works in this sense.

Close inspection of the hull has revealed a few areas that needed some filling and sanding.


and work on the superstructure begins... moulded girders, doors and decks are removed ready for PE replacements

seams are being matched, along with partlines cleaned up.

there's some quite heavy bruising of the parts at the ends

and assembly begins ready for final clean up before PE
