Paint! Well nearly!
update 14th October... yes, here we are at last ready to paint, but! before I do splash around some of the toxic stuff, here's the funnel all finished and ready to go!
I have to say, the PE from WEM was a bit of a let down. The top platform didn't fit the funnel-in fact it was the wrong radius! But how do you fix that, you ask? You don't! The lower platform was a PITA to build as well, but at least it fit the funnel correctly.
The mismatched ladder rungs on the front were removed and replaced with brass wire (0.1mm diameter)
and the ships claxon was added too!
So, at last I'm going to be able to dust off the airbrush and do some colouring!

Neat and tidy work on the Prinz, Russell!
It is fun watching you wrestle with this less-than-perfect kit... and to even have to have problems with WEM photoetch - which is ordinarily so perfect - ugh!
It's good to see the Prinz almost ready for paint; I look forward to seeing him with his colors on.

Now, as for paint, as a matter of fact I spent last night in the man cave laying down a coat of primer!
Here's a shot i took before they all made the journey to the garage-I don't think i've ever painted so many items in one hit before!

Thanks Gaz! Can't take credit for it though, seen a few other modelers here on kitmaker doing it and been keen to try it, but hadn't have any styrofoam until recently-the furniture we bought for our daughter came boxed up with all these great pieces in and i couldn't resist!
Anyhow, primer coat's on, and the decks are painted-next up masking the decks!

Haha, no, you are absolutely correct mate! The weather has been horrible the last few months-gale force winds, torrential rain, and colder than average! It might be "spring", but it sure feels like winter!
Thankfully I have a nice man-cave (garage) in which to do all my airbrushing-still need to finish the spray booth off though.
And yes-finally some paint going down!

It's great to see some colour going on to the superstructure. I always feel more progress is achieved when I have painted something. Don't know why. It's usually easiest thing to do especially when dealing with a difficult build

Was going to do some masking today, but have caught the dreaded lurgy-hopefully I can mask up tomorrow, so i can spray the top coat on Thursday-cross your fingers

I apologize for being remiss on my comments lately. Your Prinz looks great and as everyone has said it is great to see some color being added to him.
I will also be stealing the Styrofoam idea. I always seem to have difficulty keeping my pieces stable while trying to air brush them and it is frustrating.
Looking forward to seeing everything mounted on the hull.

Definitely having some good success with the Styrofoam-it really provides easy access to the parts to airbrush them effectively! highly recommended!

Just caught up on this build, looking very good if not a bit challenging. I also think that once the paint goes on the project looks much closer to being "done".
In the case of your lovely Prinz, Im sure the paint will only emphasize those clean and logical lovely lines of hers.

Thats an interesting story, I have not finished my beloved DDG, I will though. I bit off more than i could chew. I put it down for nearly a year, did lots of other things. Then I built a 1/48 Cruiser MK3 tank OOB, now im building the AFV I-58 as a diorama for the AFV campaign with just a little bit of PE.
I think i added so much to the 'James that I became afraid of messing it up and could not continue. I must have rebuilt every piece of that ship.
So im just easing myself back into the hobby.
Ill be watching,

I've taken lots of 'breaks' on both the Prinz and the KGV. Some lasting over a year!
