The Eugen really is a gorgeous looking warship. I can understand wanting to see her finished first.

Eugen has fine lines, but I sure like the brutal look of the King too

that's amazing, you are really doing them (KGV and Prinz) in parallel and what I see on both of them looks great!! Real nice and clean paint job, the extensive preparations you did to the hull certainly pay off!!
The 'Baltic Sea Camouflage' is a very tricky one - I wish you best of luck!! It seams simple - but only until you start it, than you realize that it's much more complicated to be applied than the RN camouflages. You simply can't hide errors, lines must match up, be straight all the way up. I am amazed to see you starting the stripes on the hull - now you limited yourselves to one exact position and angle. I keep my fingers crossed that the lines end up where you intend to have them!
But great work, no doubt - following with interest and looking forward to the next steps!

The coin just dropped with an enormous clang Jan. When I did my Tirpitz I started on the hull and worked up. Things just seemed to get more and more out of tune. Starting up high and working down would have gotten easier and easier.................

On the painting of the 'baltic stripes' I agree with everything you've said. It's natural to want to work from hull up but it needs to done in reverse on most kits.
However that said, I'm building him as of May 22 1941 onwards. The baltic stripe scheme had been painted over at this time, and the dark stripes on the hull and the bow waves at stem and stern are what I believe were visible through the (thin?) paint that was applied over them.
So, the hull should be Dunkelgrau 51, with slightly darker stripes and bow waves, and the upper super structure is Helgrau 50, with no stripes visible. Hence, I hopefully have dodged the proverbial bullet on this one...

I vote build the Prinz! KGV is a cool ship too, but Prinz Eugen is just one of the most graceful ships ever. Plus, your model is looking terriffic!

I bowed to pressure from my sanity and avoided drilling out the port holes.
Progress has been slow on the Eugen of late, and the KGV took a bit of a hit in the paint department when I had some issues with a clear coat that I was applying. Hopefully I'll have an update on her soon though

Wednesday September 10th update. It's been a while...
with my focus being on KGV for the battleship campaign, progress on the Prinz has been slow.
I had to correct one of the stripes
that fixed, the wooden deck was attached, and the anchors. The base arrived too.
at the time of the Bismarck episode in May '41 the deck had these areas painted over
Looking at the photos it has become apparent I forgot to paint the rear deck as well... Oh well, nothing a hairy stick and some masking won't fix
hopefully, more soon.
