Great work. Is this going to be the final wood base?

Thanks a lot.
Yes I think it will remain the final one. I have the Bismarck on a same kind of wood... I like it very much

Hi Michael,
It is a true pleasure to follow your build. Your attention to detail is outstanding! But you've heard all that before. None-the-less, thanks again for sharing!

First painting was 5-H Haze Grey byLifecolor. Once dried I painted the next darker color (5-O Ocean Grey) on it, followed by the decks in 20-B Deck Blue. Finally all parts were painted once again with airbrush in 5-0 Ocean Grey.

Next step - washing.
Cheers
Micha

Great work on the painting. Did you airbrush the whole island or hand paint the camo?

Hello,
thank you very much

And the next steps....:
- After painting the bridge a washing of black oil colors followed.
- The windows were closed with Mirco Crystal Clear
Then the rigging followed with EZ-line. As there are no plans or detailed pictures of the original USS Hornet I used all that I could get. Pictures of models, black-white pictures of the original (where you could not see so much), and some pictures of books... I think it looks ok so far.
The flag is made of fabric and glued to the rigging.

Then I added all parts on the flight deck.... looks like this now:

Next steps... weapons.....
Micha
thank you very much

Very, very nice work.
Did you find detailing the larger scale more or less difficult? Was there significantly more detailing to do? I'm thinking of moving from 1/700 to 1/350. At the age of 72, I'm not quite as nimble fingered as I used to be.

Michael,
Your Hornet is one impressive build! I especially like the open hangar doors with the peeks at all the activity going on inside. And at 1/200 scale you can actually see what's going on!

Great work Michael. I'm still on the sidelines about this kit. Not that I don't like it but where will I put it.

Hello @ all.

here the final pictures of my USS HORNET (CV-8) in scale 1/200 by Merit International, plus PE-parts by Tetra Model Works, wooden deck by Nautilus (blue painted) and propellers by G-Factor.

More about the build you find on my website or here at the "works in progress".

Later I will add some figures, but as I know there are no US Navy figures in 1/200 available yet....

Hope you like it!

Michael,
your Hornet turned out fantastic!! Great attention to detail and at the same time all fits together, with your amazing weathering, to a really amazing overall impression. Congratulations to your build and the 'commissioning'!!
Cheers,

Nice build Mike. How was the Tetra PE to work with? Did you use their wooden deck and did it attach itself well to the plastic?
Just a quick note to anyone considering this kit and a PE set, Mk1 Design have just released their set for the Hornet.
