Thanks Julian,

I do like the funnel bands, they add a touch of colour. The brass barrels are vast improvement. I think I will be acquiring another set for the trumpy Tribal.

As I building Marne as she came out of builder yard so she had quad 0.5" mounted on the lower bridge wings. I am replacing the all etched ones from the kit with WEM's aftermarket.

On with railings, not being one of WEM's most kits no custom lengths except for the forecastle, B Gundeck first, with B turret and vertical ladders up from the forecastle attached.

Y Gundeck done as well, the gap in the railings is for an inclined ladder, also fitted are the nameplates, provided on the fret painted brown and after dry lightly scraped with a blade to bring the letters up.

Thanks Julian,

Progress on everything has been a bit slow of late.

Got the etch fitted to the funnel, it's now in place,

Also the vent grills under the bridge wings fitted,

Cracked on with painting the quad 0.5" Vickers,

More soon (I hope)

Another short update,

Quad 0.5" assembled, being late in the weapon's career I am assuming the shields were not fitted, none of the photo's I have found are clear.

And in place, a bit of a touch up needed in a few places around the bridge.

Started painting the white metal components, some are very good, others are not the best.

The kit bridge detail fitted.

Will need some detail adding, voicepipes, captain's chair and maybe some binoculars on pededstals. I don't have any good pics of an M class bridge, so it will be creative gizmology. It is a bit disappointing, especially with the quality of the rest of the etch that nothing else is included for the bridge,

Carley Float racks going on.

Depth charge gear in place, didn't realise until this point the after superstructure is not central, the stbd after Carley float rack has being trimmed to fit, not quite right yet.

more soon.

Thanks Jan,

Practice is all I can say, It also means when I am sat at my bench I always have do whilst whatever I have just done is drying.

The searchlight next, strangely the fret that comes with the kit does not include any fittings for it, the lens front came from another WEM fret. The inside was polished with the back of knifeblade.

The lens itself was made from krystal klear, and handwheels came from spares on another fret.

The 4" mkV is also a bit bland so a start has been made in adding detail from copper wire, scrap etch & plastic.

Nice work on the 4" Si - there is not all that much around for those guns, is there? Apart from the Master barrel, there was nothing to get fro the 4" on my Repulse, so same scratch building and partly 'recycling' unused PE from former projects...

Thanks Jan,

Would be nice to have a state of the art 4" MkV, but it is fun to scratchbuild the detail.

More of the same creative gizmology, the Captain's chair. A bit of scrap etch yard arm.

cut down, folded and a seat base added from plastic stip.

continuing the creative gizmology on the bridge, loosely based on a K class bridge.

Hi Simon,
nearly needed trauma help after your reference to the "Captain's chair". I made the mistake as an apprentice in the Dutch merchant navy to sit on the "Captain's chair", (to be honest a rather shabby little plastic seat mounted on a wooden base). This of course resulted in a long monologue explaining why an apprentice was the lowest form of animal life
Ah well, nostalgia...(the major thought during the monologue was "get stuffed you old fart" ).

Thanks Kev,

It is tricky without good references, but the kit bridge unmodified was too bland.

Hi Julian,

Made the same mistake myself, not only did a get a tirade from the old man, but, courtesy of the chief mate, spent the next Sunday morning at sea greasing everything that moved and polishing everything that didn't.

The patience you have with the PE on your ships....IMPRESSIVE!

I dread the PE I will have to install on my Snowberry.

Super work...Simon!

Cheers,
Joe

Thanks Joe,

Just practice.... and insanity, no need to dread PE.

Cheers Kev,

I think almost every deck apprentice / cadet has done that one, and suffered the consequenses.

Funny how you never forget those silly little mistakes when you were young and the ears still sting at the thought of a fat old man giving you a whole load of grieve

Looking like the usual spot on build there Simon

A Captain's chair, great idea!! This little add-ons are real eye catchers, your compass platform looks really great this way!

Jan, Russell, Keith.

Thanks for your comments. No you never forget those silly mistakes of youth.

The bridge fitted, might add a few more voice pipes.

The Kit pompom ready fro spraying, it's not brilliant, but as the likes of Veteran / Niko don't make quad pompoms it will do.

Assembled, except for the guardrails, and under painting.

A bit more progress,

Anchor cables going in, Not having any chain small enough, so I used the etched chain.

Anchor cables fitted, along with the df loop, bridge windscreen (A spare from the G/H class fret, nothing included on the kit fret( along with the mount for the YAGI aerial on the director.

The pompom fitted, along with the railings round the searchlight platform & the mainmast.

4" detailing finished % primed.

Thanks Jan,

They are really nice kits, the resin is real quality, and the etch is very good, just need a bit of love.

Cheers Julian, feel I am getting there.
