Dave,
That is a great tutorial and since I have Maya in the queue somewhere along with brass strips from NorthStar I know where to come to do this. I see a lot of planning and patience in this!

cheers

Hi Dave,

fantastic work on your Maya!! The brass striping looks superb!! - I can imagine that this becomes tedious over time, but you are doing a great job and I am sure it will really stand out on the finished model!!

Cheers,

Gents,

Thanks so much for the comments. It means a lot coming from a group that I look up to for their skills and friendship. It provides a great deal of motivation, especially for something as tedious and time consuming as laying the brass strip.

That being said, I can now report that I am complete. Here are the final pictures.

One last bit of advice, sanding the molded brass is essential to ensure the brass strip lays flat, however I would recommend not removing it completely so that it provides some assistance for placing the PE Brass strip.

well that's it for now, more to come soon.

thanks for looking in and as always comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for all the comments and support. I am anticipating the Maya's commissioning to occur within the next month.

So with that I have begun the pre commissioning construction.

The main guns are not glued yet.

And here is the bridge, also not glued

All major construction is complete except the two masts. I will begin working on those this weekend.

I do have much in the way of fiddly parts to work on including all of the reels and weapons. The production line for the weapons will begin soon.

Well that's it for now but thanks for looking in. As always comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Hi all,

Well I had some photos to show my updates but there seems to be a problem with the gallery yet again. This is twice in as many weeks.

I didn't realize how long it has been since my last update. While I haven't written anything I haven't been idle too much. I am down to the fiddly parts and they are very time consuming.

However the main funnel is now attached with glue and we are moving towards the final build.

Hopefully the gallery will be fixed soon so I can show my progress.

Well hopefully I haven't loss any followers due to the ship workers being on strike but if so I hope to get you back

More to come soon.

Hey Dave! Looking forward to that update!!

As for the gallery...I heard from Jim and it seems the host provider took advantage of the holiday weekend here in the states. Jim will have a closer look at this as soon as he gets back into the office this week. There were some other minor glitches that could wait to be dealt with...with any luck, maybe the system will straighten out before then to get the gallery up and running.

Sorry for any inconvenience on the meantime!

Todd,

No worries, technology is a fickle beast. I'm looking forward to posting the update and getting the Maya done so I can move on to the Z32 and other projects. I have determined that four projects at once tipped the scale to too many.. Oooops

Hi Dave,

no worries, sometimes time flies by and you haven't written anything or, even worse, haven't made any good progress. I know that very well, for a broad variety of reasons.

No worries, I'm still in and watching and looking forward to see your update!!

Cheers

Hi Dave,

You have not lost "this" follower. Great job on your Maya! I don't think I have the patience and skill to install the brass strips for the linoleum the way you did. Looking forward to seeing the latest pictures!

Hey all,

Wel I am going to give this a shot and see if the photos appear.

As previously mentioned I started on the Mast for the Maya. The Flyhawk kit has you remove quite a bit of plastic which lends to weakening the overall structure.

That being said it did not help that I broke a piece.

Now the area of focus that has consumed my time over the past few weeks has been all of the fiddly parts needed to commission this project.

That picture has all the cable reels, AA guns, davit supports etc etc etc..

Here are some more detailed shots of the AA guns.

The triple 25mm:

the DP 127mm

There are more photos which I have not bee able to upload but I think I will skip them as you get the gist of the fiddly parts.

One of the major events that occured this weekend, after much consternation and fear was the mounting of the main funnel.

This weekend will be focused on adding the bridge and the AA deck permanently along with the rear funnel. Once that is complete and cured the real fun will begin with adding all of the fiddly parts that have been so time consuming.

Well thats it for now but I promise to have more soon.

thanks for stopping by and as always comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Coming on great Dave,

The Main Funnel is a real work of etched art.

The 127mm and the triple 25's look very good too.

Cheers.

Gents,

Thanks for the kind comments and support. Saturday was a great day of progress with the rear AA deck, rear funnel, and all the triple 25's being mounted with crew manning them on the port side. If the gallery would work I've got about 20 photos to show so stay tuned. Hopefully the gallery will be up soon

Dave
