Great work on the etch and brass Dave.
Did you think about replacing all the plastic for the mast with some brass rod. It would give you the strength back especially if you have any load on it.
I love the shape of that funnel. Much more funky than the straight up tubes.
cheers
Michael

Michael,
thanks for the kind comments. I did in fact look at replacing the plastic with brass rod but unfortunately I was not confident enough in my skill to actually follow through. It is something I want to learn though as I agree it will look better and not result in the wonky problem I have with the mast now.
With all that said and promises of updated pictures I can finally follow through as the gallery is back up. Instead of writing a bunch of words I will just provide pictures.
prep paint:

construction:

Near disaster when the little black monster jumped on the chair with the Maya on it precariously. Almost sending her flying onto the kitchen floor.

More construction after averting disaster:

As you can see in some of the pictures there were some fit issues which I am unable to address. Also looking at the front mast from above you can see the cross bar is angled which again I could not figure how to fix.
Not museum quality but I do think I have improved since building my Musashi. Also I am not convinced the size of the crew is right as they look a little big.
All of the single 25mm are complete and ready for mounting. Now just need to work the railings, the rear mast and the davits for the lifeboats. A few other fiddly parts but the end is in sight.
well that's it for now.
Thanks for stopping in and as always I cherish your comments and suggestions.

Thinking this is looking superb Dave! Great seeing this all come together! While you may be right in regards to the figures, they actually fit the part rather well! They instantly bring life to the build! Each build brings always brings us a new set of challenges my friend! The fun part is finding them and striving to improve on things! She's a real beauty...keep it going!!

Gents,
Thank you all for the kind comments. I have definitely learned a lot on this build. I will admit that I did come close to losing my motivation but y'all helped me pull through. Commissioning will occur within the month.
Thanks again for all the support

Hi Dave,
It's looking great and for the first time I noticed the great weathering you done on her. Looks very effective. The crew look at home, just get a couple of hundred more on there!

cheers

Gents,
Thanks for the comments and support. I have quite a few more crew members to add and some more weathering to do but the light is there and commissioning will be done shortly.
Thanks again

Hi Dave,
absolutely outstanding work!!
I know your feeling about giving up only too well - it's great you did not and what you are showing here is a fantastic model!!

As for the crew size - may it be that they just seem to be big because of their bright white uniforms?? Looking at the railing being at hip's height, that seems about right to me...
Looking forward to your commissioning ceremony you've earned it
  you've earned it

Cheers,
Jan

Hi All,
First off I want to thank each and everyone of you for your support during this build. I ran into some trying times and wanted to quit on several occasions. But your comments and support kept me going.
I can now say that the Maya is complete. While it is not as good as I hoped it would be I am happy with the final outcome. I did not rig her completely as I had some issues in that department. I will make another attempt later before mounting her to the final water base.
For now I am moving on to other projects.
thanks again and here are some final pictures.

Si,
Thanks I appreciate the comments. I just need to learn how to rig better. It is a blaring error that is driving me nuts...

Great job Dave, no deed for mourning...

Your Maya turned out absolutely fantastic, and I was enjoying your build log all the way!! - and I do understand your rigging issues, I'm fighting with that for my self every time. EZ-line helped some, but I will never be a master at this...
Congratulations on your commissioning the IJN Maya!!!
Cheers

All,
Thank you again for the great comes and support during this build. It definitely helped keep me motivated during the times that dragged.
my next non-campaign build is either going to be the Hasegawa Nagato, the Fujimi Fuso, or the Fujimi Shokaku.
Have not decided which yet but I will soon so keep an eye out.
