Hey everyone,
As I said a few days ago here is an update. The Shokaku is moving forward. A more detailed update in provided in my build log.
Here is one of 32 aircraft that will eventually be loaded onto the flight deck.

The Shokaku launched 26 "Vals" and 5 "Zeros" during the first wave. The Val is a Fujimi kit with PE from Tetra Models.
Here are some update pictures.

Still A LOT more to go. Once I complete the starboard side ill move on to the port side with just as much if not more PE.
As always, comments, suggestions, and criticism are always welcome.

Joe,
I am no expert with regards to aircraft or anything else for that matter. I would assume though, and this is without research, that there was some sort of trolley that would enable the movement of the PBY-5 from the water to a hanger for the purpose of maintenance. That might explain why there were intermittent pock marks on the tarmac.
Again, I have no evidence to back this up other than all historical data showed that the difference between the PBY-5 and 5a was the integrated landing gear and that the 5a did not arrive in Pearl until 1942.
A good discussion though.
On a side note, this campaign is open to all aspects of modeling, so if there is a wingy thing that fits the bill come on over and join the campaign.
Dave
thanks Dave. i was thinking of making a model of the Oklahoma to give to my nephew since he was born and raised there and at the same time use it here. i can't seem to find a kit of it though except a resin one that is more than $300 and isn't that big.
also i just realized i AMA part of this campaign-lol- been doing one after another and lost track. i haven't chose a subject yet i just finished the burma campaign and am into the eto campaign now.
the trolley idea did occur to me but i thought it would have been a cumbersome difficult way to beach these birds. it really is surprising that the designers never thought about designing it with wheels in the event there was no water around.
i know there is a photo or two that show one of these planes destroyed on the tarmac after the attack. i should look for it and see if the body has any wheel on it, i am curious now.

Check this out:
It's a 1/200 Paper model of the Oklahoma. I have seen these built up and they are quite impressive. A different tack to modeling, but modeling none the less.

Mark,
I built a paper German WWI gunboat once... it really was a different experience than plastic modeling - much more difficult, I thought, but then it wasn't what I'm used to...
Anyway, that paper Oklahoma does look impressive. You should take it on yourself!

I did foray into the world of paper modeling with the Chrysler Building and the Nations Capital. This kit doth beckon, but; for now I'll pass as I am working on the 1/200 Rodney, thanks for the encouragement though.

In case I don't get the Arizona finished. (Actually I'm almost finished, but I can't find anyone to build the waterline base I need.)
Here is a backup startup photo of the Zero at Pearl Harbor.

I want to re-enter this campaign with a Monogram Devastator TBD-1. Photo to follow as soon as I can take one with the kit and screen shot.

The USS Arizona is getting close. I have a base now and after I stain it polyurethane it I'll put in the water and "launch" the ship.
I still have some details to finish on the ship, but it is getting close.

Tom, nice looking Arizona. Will the base be as is or have any water texture?
Yes, it will be waterline base with the 2 mooring quays and the ship tied up to them. the base will have a blue foam board bottom and then clear acrylic caulk for water.

David, thanks for the kind comments. I sanded the raised panel line off when putty was sanded, so I tried a trick I learned here by stretching sprue and applying it to replace the detail.

Here are some photos of the Launch of the USS Arizona into the "water" on the base.
This is showing the base ready with the foam board glued to the base and the ship located in its final location.

This photo shows the acrylic clear caulking laid down and smoothed out. The ship and the mooring quays have been "dropped" into the "water".

This photo shows the "water" is almost completely clear after 48 hours of drying time. I think it will be completely clear by Saturday. Then on to the final details to complete the ship.

Tom,
Amazing work on both the USS Arizona and the Mitsubishi A6M2b-21 'Zero" (Zeke). I really like the plane in flight look.
Great work.

Hello,
sorry for none reply the last time. But I had to finish some other projects.
I came to the point where I daded the flight deck on my Shokaku and painted it.
I also added most of the flight deck markings.
I also finished the Zeros and startet with the first six Vals.
Again these are the lion roar planes with Fly Hawk pe.
Greetings Christian

Christian,
Amazing work. I can only hope that I can make the 1/350 Shokaku look half as good as you have in 1/700 scale. I cant imagine how you do it.
Looking forward to seeing more as she comes together

I guess I've been posting my build progress in the wrong forum. I wasn't aware there were other sections other than Armorama. Not sure if there is a way to move my posts to this forum.

Mark,
I have no issue with keeping your previous posts on Armorama. I would ask that you keep your updated posts on model shipwrights from this point forward.
All that being said, amazing work. The level of detail and the clean painting is amazing. Looking forward to seeing some more.
