Very nicely done so far. It may be just the Kit's parts but the A/A on the Main Mast Top look way over scale but your work so far is very neat and tidy.....Cheers mark

New Years update!! Got a little bit done this weekend!

Got the screws looking the part!

FINALLY got some color on the hull and lifeboats

Superstructure looking the part and got my main guns masked off

Some detail work and getting the spots I missed last time

I spent most of my day building this instead

Just not sure what section of the site it goes in...

Happy Modeling!

Perhaps the "Dry Docked 2020" campaign...?

After that tornado hits you may not be doing much "Happy Modeling" for a while!

No updates this weekend, guys.

Spent all my time on my 1:1 Cadillac replacing a thermostat. Hands are kind beat up so I couldn't do any fine detail work.

Well painted the boot last. See how this method worked since I painted it last. Risky, I know.

I will have to wait to pull off the tape. Want to leave everyone in suspense.

Thanks, man!! I appreciate the kind words!!

Well, it didn't go as well as I hoped.

Ouch. Well, it was a learning experience. I plan on spraying black on both sides and redoing the red and top half.

Hi Charlie,

Apologies, on my trawling through the builds I missed this one. Some great work in 1/700th.

Must admit boot toppings make me nervous too, especially masking over filler.

Good luck with the recovery, will be along for the rest of ride.

Cheers

Thanks for the encouragement, guys! I just plan on spraying the sides black, remasking, and respraying the hull red. It should be too bad. I got some really, really thin Tamiya masking tape to use.

Chalk it up to a learning experience.

Charlie,

I think you will find your present approach to masking the boot topping to be simple and effective. It is how I do them - but we all figure out the techniques we like best for ourselves and, as you say, it is a learning experience! Good luck with it.

That's how I painted the KGV. I think I got ahead of myself (read: excited) about painting a brighter hull red.

Hi Charlie,

good to see the recovery going on.

Sounds like a good plan, might give it a go myself when it comes to tricky boot toppings.

Fisher Price My First Anchor Chains™

And a dry fit. She is starting to look the part.

Still have to finish the army of lifeboats and both planes. But she is coming along.

Looking good, Charlie - the wood decks especially!

I can just visualize tiny sailors holystoning it or squaring away those neighboring anchor chains.
