Skipper, I was thinking of something ready to go. As in rail with track ties ballast etc. I know Custom Dioramics has one, and so does VP, and I think VLS does too. I'm just unsure if they will fit the Baluard wheel spacing given the fact none were actually created to run trains on.

Hi Brett, again

The thing is that I doubt that would be any ballast on the tracks in the pier...

On Andreas Miniatures book "Das Boot" the state that the track was made using evergreen...

The last link I provided is great (I know, they sell it in 10 x 1,5 meters rail sections) since it's real rail, and because it's sold as individual rails you could adjust it for the gauge of the Balluard model - you would lay your own track!

Just my 2 cents

Actually, this will be for the rail adjacent to the wharehouse - in an area seperate from the pier. It will be your run of the mill, prototypical rail siding sitting atop mother earth. But with that in mind, I'm starting to think it will be just as easy to modify the wheelsets in the kits to fit so I think I'm working thru my own problem.

For the rail on the pier my intentions are to use a router to cut the grooves into the top and then lay the rail down in those grooves so everything is flush. Of course, I'm merely assuming that's the way it was done on the prototype given the pics of the tunnel in La Pallice. I still haven't found a pic of the pier that shows the rail or how far out it runs from the front of the bunker.

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this stunning piece, but it is the most amazing eye candy I've seen yet. Absolutely incredible work! Unfortunately, it also means that someone else has stolen my thunder.

I also found another site with info on U-Boat pens that has additional pics not already included in the links that were previously posted.

Brett, thats friggin amazing.
How the hell are we going to compete with that. L.O.L.
Thats truly a work of art and kinda what I had invisioned except for the pens.
Would love to try and make a nice crane too but I'm afraid it wouldn't come out convincing enough.
Oh well back to the drawing board.

Oh and Brett any progress on your build, pics maybe ? I've been working 12 - 14 hr days, modeling has kinda been on the back burner. Everything will slow down come Fall tho, just more time to plan.

train track running through a city alongside a dock would NOT have ballast. The concrete would be poured to ballast it i I would think. I've got a 18 inch piece of resin It's a cobblestone street. given to me as a gift that I plan to take some evergreen I-beam and make a track for a trolley car for a KTiger Viginette.

Cheyenne, I'm in a bit of a holding pattern until the additional parts from AA arive. After doing the math I've figured that I'll need another 8 straight sections and 2 stair sections to complete the pier.

On top of that, one of those sections will need to be heavily reworked and then used as a master to cast several copies for use inside the pens. So I have a lot of cutting and modifying ahead of me. However, I have a pretty solid game plan, so once I get resupplied it will be full steam ahead. About the only design detail I'm still working out is the right rear corner behind the wharehouse. Other than that, I've got my game plan and ready to go to work.

As for my weekly job I'm in the same boat as you - I work 7pm-7am 2 to 3 days at a stretch, so on my days off I'm not getting up until later in the afternoon. By the time I get the household duties out of the way it's well after dark. And while it's surprisingly relaxing to be working at 3am on something you enjoy, it's not a real good time to be breaking out the power tools. The Dremel is about as much as I can get away with at that hour. However, I have nearly 3 weeks of vacation next month so as long as the UPS truck arrives on time I should make some pretty good progress.

So, if all goes according to plan I should have something to show around this time next month.

Brett

True indeed blaster76. However I'm looking for something to go near the back of the dio, behind the wharehouse. And unless I change my mind, my tentative plans have that area done in a mix of dirt and gravel and perhaps a few scattered weeds. Would that track not be ballasted? It would be here in the U.S.
