Great ribbon that is designed for this campaign.
Looking forward to get the campaign started
- why is it not starting on April 1st? Is there any particular reason for stating it so late late?
Now, would I go with a LVT, M113 or Huey? Decisions decisions decisions....

Ahoy, Jesper!
To answer your timing question, mate, quite simply, I try to take into context ALL Kitmaker campaign activity, to, #1, create a time frame that is acceptable to all, #2, attract more entrants from all of our sites, #3, not to stress everyone out completely by running too many campaigns at once!
Alot of thought is put into these factors, and especially since us shipbuilders will often run very long campaigns, to allow extra time for complex builds...Now, we DO have a campaign starting on April 1st, mate...how about signing up for that one, while you're waiting for the next!?
Cheers,
~Gunny

I cannot argue with that.
1st July is fine with me. I were just wondering why the campaign was "promoted" so far ahead of actually starting.Quoted Text

Well, I have not build a ship for around 15 years, so I have no idea what would qualify for the Leyte campaign. Maybe if I can find something simple build OOB - maybe a submarine. I will try to see what I can find on the Internet. If you have any suggestions please do not hesitate to put them forward

Ahoy Jesper!
Boy, the subject matter for the Leyte campaign is wide open. Flattops to LCVP and LCMs. If you go the campaign page, there is a link in the addtional info slot that will take you to a fine Leyte site that list all the ships involved.

I just picked up an Italerie 35th LCM3 for a real cheap price the other day. What modifications would I need to do to it to have it wrk for this campaign. I still may do the Huey D for it, but want to look at all my options.

Blaster,
Didn't they turn some of those LCM's into monitors? I thought I read something about that over at brownwater.net.
("Battleship of the Mekong" The Monitor was converted from an LCM(6) Landing Craft of WW II fame. Modified with bar armor, which prematurely detonated the warhead of an enemy RPG or recoilless rifle round and reduced penetration of any secondary armor plate. Styrofoam sponsons were added along the hull to assist in flotation and alleviate some of the added weight due to all the extra armor on board. Monitor's were considered to be the battleships of the flotilla due to their heavy armament consisting of, but not limited to the following: 40-mm Bofors cannon and .30-cal. or .50-cal machine gun mounted in a forward turret. An 81-mm direct fire mortar, four .30-cal machine guns amid ship. Two .50-cal. machine guns and a Mark 16 (Mod 4) 20-mm cannon mounted in turrets on the helm. Other versions were seen to have two Army M10-8 flamethrower turrets. A winch was placed on the fantail for chain drag equipment to sweep for command detonated mines. Power was provided by twin Detroit Diesel engines connected to dual shaft drives. Top speed was grueling 8 Knots. Crew consisted of eleven sailors. Some Program 4 Monitors were also converted into Command and Communication Boats (CCB) to serve as the eyes and ears for the Flotilla Commander, and Zippo boats that were modified by adding flamethrower turrets. )
I pasted that from the site. It would be a cool build, you should give it a go.

I think the French used LCM3. I know that they used US LCMs.

Hey all,
I'm thinking about doing a coastguard ship (they used some ww2 seaplane tenders and I thought it would be a good fit for this campaign. Does this fall with in the rules????

Thanks for the info guys. I've seen that moniton and it looks cool, but I really am not interested in doing a lot of scratch / kitbashing on this project. May look into doing a kind of extra machine gun type gunship or something, and may change my mind and do something totally different. I have until July or so to decide

Hi Frank
If your references say that the ship was used at some time in riverine ops or support then that will be fine.
I imagine seaplanes carried on the vessel would have been used to recce for the riverine forces.
Which kit is it, I am intrigued?
Cheers

Hello Bruce
Have a look at this site aswell, when you scroll down the page click on the section 'boats'.
http://members.lycos.co.uk/Indochine/cefeo/afvs.html
There are listings of types and numbers of craft used by the French, looks like quite a few LCVP's were on strength. I believe these were upgunned with 20mm Oerlikon cannons and Machine guns.
If I turn up any pics I will pass 'em on.
All the best

Hi Steve
You can build the LCM3 straight(ish) if you wish, these were used by the French for transporting troops, trucks, guns, tanks(?), and cargo. I will say that most had a bit of armour either plate and or sandbags (and weapons) added around the wheelhouse area. This should be an easy addition from plastic card and some epoxy putty.
Probably best to have a look at the dinnasaut site mentioned earlier in the thread to get an idea. I will see what I can turn up.
All the best

Dus,
Thank you for the URL to the Indochina site. I've been all over that one, believe me. It seems extremely difficult to believe there are no drawings or other photos available of the LCVP's modified for service there. But I have plenty of time, and will keep searching. Between the US wood ones, and the French Steel ones, there has to be more info out there
Thanks again, guys, and I'll keep digging. Semper Fi ............Bruce

Hi Dave,
Great collection of sampans, didn't know so many were available.
Why not build a convoy?
Ciao
