3 new submarine kits from Trumpeter have been announced for 2016 that include a deep sea research craft, a cutting edge nuclear attack submarine and a China's first fully developed submarine from within China.

Following Hasegawa's kit of Japan's Shinkai 6500 deep sea submarine, Trumpeter is planning a 1/72 kit of China's Jiaolong submersible (No 01671). This craft has been in service since 2010 and can dive to a depth of 7000 meters.

Next is a 1/350 kit of the Royal Navy's Astute class nuclear attack submarine (No 07303). Astute, first in the class entered service in 2010 and seven boats are planned with 3 built so far.

Also in 1/350, aType 039 Song class diesel/electric submarine of the PLA Navy (No 04599). These boats first entered service in 1998 and have had refined variants appear over the years. This model appears to be the 039 or 039G variant with the fin like projection aft on the conning tower.
