Coming this summer is a waterline version of one of naval battle history's greatest victors - His Imperial Japanese Majesty`s Ship Mikasa. This is a new tool kit with what looks to be excellent details.
Mikasa was laid down in 1899 and launched in 1900. Built and commissioned at Vickers Shipyard in England and upon her transfer to Japan was included in the Imperial Navy`s Fleet. Mikasa gained great fame during the Russo-Japanese of 1904-1905, where she served as the flagship of the fleet under the command of Admiral Heihachiro Togo (1848-1934).

This kit (No 49151) is comprised of 198 parts and includes markings for the ship for two different dates:

1) IJN combined fleet flagship the battle of the Japan Sea May 27-28, 1905
2) IJN combined fleet flagship the battle of the Yellow Sea Aug., 10, 1904

Hobby Link Japan has this kit listed for a July release and priced at $19.91 US (€17.61) plus shipping.

Looks like a decent kit of a very interesting subject. I don't have a lot of experience with pre-WWI dreadnoughts, but I might just have to pick this one up. Jim

I've met more than one modeler who prefers pre-dreadnought battleships from the waterline up. The bathtub shape hulls are a turnoff to some after being used the sleek hulls of later made cruisers and dreadnoughts. For myself, I dig the bloated, bulbous look of the riveted hulls. It gives them a cool steampunk look.

Steampunk! Never considered that. Now that's might be interesting. Jim
