Like the old saying goes, what was old is new again. Revell Germany has announced the re-release of two popular naval subjects from the old Revell shipyard. Under the Revell Classic line, look for the limited release of the 1/240 Destroyer H.M.S. Campbeltown and the 1/253 Polaris Nuclear Submarine Abraham Lincoln. Both kits remain true to the original releases including the use of the original box art and molds.
Ships Histories
”March 27, 1942 - a pitch-dark night over St. Nazaire, France. The specially prepared British destroyer "Campbeltown" (formerly USS Buchanan, built 1919) goes up the Loire under full steam flying the German flag. With small explosions the Campbeltown runs aground in front of the dry dock of the port of St. Nazaire, precisely where the Tirpitz will later be repaired. The crew are taken prisoner and German officers go aboard to investigate. 9 hours later the Campbeltown, which is totally full of explosives, blows up and causes serious damage to the dock. She was thus the largest ever time bomb, the Trojan horse of the Second World War.”
” The development of the Polaris generation of submarines is generally regarded as having had a strong influence on the balance of power between East and West in the 1960s. The US Navy concentrated its production orders on this type, which at that time was the main constituent of the American submarine fleet. The Polaris Class consists of nuclear powered submarines armed with ballistic missiles. Thanks to the nuclear power it is capable of a speed of over 35 knots on the surface and 20 knots submerged and can stay underwater for hundreds of hours. This submarine is equipped with 16 Polaris medium-range guided missiles that can be fired from under water. These missiles are equipped with nuclear warheads and are suitable for surprise attacks. They have a range of over 2,000 km.”
