Thanks Kenny for the kind words.

Long time no update the news writing has been keeping me real busy indeed but finally here is one.

The hull where the torpedoes launch from were masked and touched up.

As long as theres life, theres hope

Nice work so far - Maybe Garth can ad to this, but as far as I know, some S-boats where refitted with stainless steel propellers in Finland during the war doing service in the baltic, one boat "103" was sunk off Mommark in Denmark and divers report that the propellers are "silvery" - so if your are building a version that did service in the baltic it might have had steel propellers.

Hi Jan

Thanks for that information.

My E-Boat is "very loosely" based on S13 circa 1940 in Norway.

Here are some shots of the deck with a little more work done.

Thanks Sil.

Its a great old kit.

Manufactured in approx.1975 by Airfix.

I have overall enjoyed it and I have built it pretty much out of the box.

I am even painting it as per the superb box art.

Is the kit accurate? No.

Is it a lot of work to clean up? Yes

Is it a fun build? Yes.

I have another Airfix "in stock" to build up as a more accurate representation of an early pre war E-Boat.

I also have the Revell S Boot & its Flak variant to build.

I am also watching your build with keen interest .

Cheers

Hey Sean,

Too bad you're in New Zealand and I'm in Connecticut in the US. I'd ask you to do my Airfix S-10 ...

Hi Garth

I am truly humbled by your praise.

My out of the box Aifix build now 3 years old is meandering along.

I am happy thus far but I have had the odd bump along the way with this build and it is very much a love hate relationship. LOL

I am truly humbled and honoured by your offer distance of course being the obstacle.

Let me get some more work done on this boat (i.e.complete it) and then maybe we can revisit the matter.

Cheers

Well, if you've got a Star Fleet transporter in your garage, ... the distance is a deal-breaker. HAHAHAHA.

Sean,
You've got a great start on your E-Boat. I built mine in 1979 after I bought Fast Fighting Boats by Harold Fock. Although the model has received a lot of criticism for the shape of the hull I think it's a decent model for the time it was made.. This spring I "upgraded" the E-boat using available photos both in print and off the Internet to come up with what is probably a guesstimate of what the boat may have looked like.

I found very few images on this class of boat, none of which had the detail I wanted so I did a lot of guessing. I took half the boat a part to make the changes I wanted to make. It would have been easier to start with a new kit.

Darn good work there Jim. Well done.

I have another kit in stock to do a full detail conversion on as well.

Its been long time since I did an update and also any work on my E-Boat.

Well the schedule of a news reporter around here is pretty hectic but here some update shots with the Life preservers masked;

Coming along nicely.

One hint,

Pitch the depth charges and the racks into your spare parts box. Do not use them!

S-boats did carry depth charges at times, but they NEVER looked like what the Airfix kit provides.

The parts scale up to 1 meter (40") in diameter. Way too big. And the actual racks were simple

angle bracket affairs with cables retaining each charge.

Check prinzeugen.com for images of the real thng

Hi Sean, if I can throw my 2 pence worth in, the main deck guns, maybe on your next project if you can buy yourself some jeweller drill bits (only cheep) for drilling out the barrels on the guns, once painted they will look almost as good as brass, and take care of mould lines, there are a couple on the torpedeos, when you paint these, they will show through.
Following the box art isn't the way forward, internet research is with colour photo's WW2 and either ebay or main supplier for decals. The E-Boat is a great 1-72 subject along side PT's and MTB's, you are really doing well and look forward to seeing more.

Sean,

May I make a suggestion here?

WEM has some G7 torpedoes for the Revell S-100 and the Type VII U-boat as well as German 2.0cm AA guns too.

Couldn't you modify their G7s into G5s and use them and use their 2.0cm gun?

Garth
