Sean, I'm getting around to reading this thread and let me say I admire your perseverance. When it comes to having kits sit in "dry dock" for years I've been there, done that, and have the 1/2 finished kits to show for it. I've found it nearly impossible at times to go back to a kit that has sat for so long and complete it. The siren call of newer kits normally calls me away. So cheers to you for you dedication.

I've seen this kit on the shelf of the LHS so many times and one of these days I'm going to pick one up. Airfix, with all their faults, was one of the modeling companies of my youth and I always have a soft spot in my heart for them.

I really like your idea of alligator clips on toothpicks, or clamps on cocktails sticks to you folks down under. I'm going to look for some next time I go to the store. I also feel your pain with the overspray issue. I can't tell you how many times I've masked the hull, sprayed one color, found overspray, masked again and sprayed the color that got oversprayed, then found overspray on the original color. (If that makes any sense) It's pretty frustrating.

Keep at her Mate, you'll "get r done" as they say over here.

Hi fellas

Thanks for the interest.

Andrew yes I am aware of the torpedo racks issue but I like them and they add real character IMHO opinion. The strict goal for this build is OTTB and I have another to do to right the wrongs and present a more accurate representation of the boat.

Alec Yip I have drilled out the barrel end on the rear deck gun probably doesnt look like very clear in the picture. I have plans to add a PE sight as well. They way the torpedoes are to be placed the seam lines will hopefully not be visiable.

Garth- Yip for my future other planned Airfix E-Boat I plan to use those WEM products if I can. I am planning on doing some real scratchbuildong and getting rid of some stuff like the huge rope on the deck, adding doors to both sides of the cabin etc.

Rodger - Ship mate its been 3 +years and I refuse to build another kit until she is finished. Yip darn overspray Grrr. LOL

Please keep following along this slow but interesting build.

Cheers

Nice work Sean. Like Rodger, I too have fought the overspray monster. He's almost as bad as the carpet monster.

Here is some in progress shots of the rear Deck:

You can see it needs a little work to tidy it up though.

Garth as is apparent from my "snail like " pace very, very slowly. LOL

I am only a "learner"/"apprentice" with respect to ship building but I am pretty pleased with progress thus far.

Creepers another update.

This time of the dinghy which got some metallic overspray from the torpedoes oh dear more work.

Whats interesting to the naked eye the metallic is not raedily apparent but its glaring so when in a digital image on the computer monitor.

I wasnt to happy with the colour of the propellers I should never have tried the Games Woprkshop bronze so reworked them a bit:

Whilst not perfect they are much improved.

Here is a shot of the controversial depth charges.

Controversial in the sense that they are not portrayed correctly and are not appropriate for the boat. But I am building OTTB as per the box art and I think they kinda look good

Another update this time of the rear deck gun.

Its hard to see in the images but the barrel has been drilled out.

I would value opinions on the photoetch sight.

Finally decided to do a little glazing on the cabin/wheelhouse - installed the windows.

I was contemplating painting them black but upon the advice of afellow modeller left them clear as they are so thick you cannt see inside anyway.

Tahnks for looking in James.

I am slowly mastering the camera LOL

I have started drybrushing the ropes on the side of the dinghy plus the wooden type of slats.

When I look at old used rope its kinda grey and dirty on the inside and alighter tan on the outside hence the effect I am trying to achieve here:

Here is a "long range" shot with my E-Boat mocked up.
