Had to have a at go them Jan,

The kit 4" are not spectacular to say the least, and apart from brass barrels Pontos do not address the issues, neither really do WEM, so this was the best way out.

Thanks for looking in Mate.

Cheers

All platforms fitted to the funnel, railings on the upper level need a tweak yet, the searchlight supports have been fixed at the correct height.

The catapult under construction.

and done.

straight forward but effective.

The funnel and cat test fitted.

Cheers

Si

Yup, they do come in handy for that, and for keeping those lumps of blue tack the right way up, to allow work on small awkward bits of resin/ etch etc.

Thanks for looking in.

I wonder if they have changed the Pontos Kit. I don't recall the bit you have inside the funnel in my PE set. Even looking at the instructions on their website I don't see it (http://pontosmodel.com/html/35001f1.html) hmmmmm...

Hi Rory, that is because that bit came from the WEM set, not the Pontos set. I am not sure if it is accurate, but it covers the empty cavern of the funnel very nicely.

Thanks for looking in.

This weekend's progress,

The funnel given a coat of light grey.

the mid grey on and the funnel interior painted black.

The kit funnel cap.

Destruction done.

I used the White Ensign etched funnel cap as it matched the drawings better than the Pontos offering.

The funnel cap and searchlights fitted, and the funnel fixed down.

Four sights from the North star set with their seats fitted.

With a little trimming the WEM base for the 4" splinter shielding fitted the space in the Pontos deck perfectly, a testament to the accuracy of both.

More soon.

Cheers

Si

Next job,

The 4" gun positions.

The White Ensign splinter shields. One straight off the fret, one folded.

a lesson in how not to do it, all the splinter shielding down on the port side. If you leave the two inner sections off, it is much easier to get the gun mounts in.

The gun mounts assembled and with a top coat of paint on.

And the guns fitted.

Needs a little tidying up yet.

More tomorrow /Monday

Cheers

Thank you Thomaa,

The bending was a little tricky around the two curved sections. A little file work & a touch up will hide the worst of it. But then that in a way is the fun of our great hobby.

Thanks for looking in and your kind comment.

A little progress on Sunday,

The long ladder fitted from the signal platform to the hanger roof.

will paint that next time round.

Test fit of the Pontos foremast lower section.

The etched starfish assembled, and platforms added to the foremast, the kit starfish shown for comparison.

The kit radar lantern assembled,

the upper section replaced with an open etched section.

More soon.

Cheers

SI,

That platform really is a nice improvement from the supplied in the kit.
