Not too far, 20mm, cranes, masts, rigging, main deck railings etc etc.

I did dare go back.
One photograph I forgot to take last time. The finished upgraded Pompom compared to the unaltered kit parts.
One of the issues with the adapting the kit part is that the breech section is not solid, which caused a few issues drilling out for the brass barrels.
The solution
still needs a few swipes with a file.
Where I am at.
a bit more progress on the 20mm.
And the foremast.
test fitted in place.

So being from England and working several ship kits, assembling a lot PE, I have to ask; Do you have a beer refrigerator in you hobby room to cope with all that PE? I know I would have to have one..LOL.

Not quite in the workshop... But the emergency fridge is close at hand for when I finish a session! I would be even shorter on sanity if it wasn't!

Just caught up on this one si, the warspite looks good, I’m building the pontos KVG 1941 Pom poms now. A lot more parts with the newer pontos sets, have to build 6, comes with resin bases and breech assy, rest photo etch. No kit parts. Should be fun. Keep it up Si

The Grand Old lady Has been a bit on hold of late, mostly to crack on with other stuff, although family stuff a the hot weather has reduced wokshop time of late.
Have to say the Pom poms are less fun that those in the KGV sets.
But to be fair they were Pontos' fair attempt.

I’ve built both flyhawk and now pontos Pom poms, flyhawk take is a middle of the road using kit and flyhawk parts but no resin, pontos in the KVG 1941 set is outright insane. You start with a resin base, add 6 grates, fold the stand for the breech assy, and Shell chute, then comes the resin breech, with a photoetch wraparound for the sides and front, drill 8 .5mm holes for the 8 barrels, then sights, four magazines, 2 magazine baskets per gun, then comes 4 rails. All in all around 30 something parts per gun. They look good, but holy Jesus they test the patience of anyone. I am at the point of wanting simpler lol.

plastic, but where the etch went I don't know.
Not a disaster. Found a spare part built North star beast I didn't use on Repulse.
will use spare pontos bits to finish it.
meantime progress on the other two.
Work going on the 20mm too, aI think I did something similar to get the shield straight on the Duke.
Doesn't seem to be working that well, practice makes perfect.

It is one fully barrelled up pompom chassis and one with two barrels in.
Close up, the barrels don't look that wonky with a MK1 eyeball.
Nearly pinged a short barrel across the workshop, so left off there before I lost something.

Hi Mark,
I do understand what you mean. I find it easier to attach the mounts to shields whilst the shields are still on the fret, and once dry then add the pedestal prior to cutting it off the fret.

Very quick update from last weekend. Not much time at the bench.
All four pompoms built.
The odd one is mostly North Star parts,
But painted it fits in with the others.
detail painting and they will be ready for fitting.
