Ahoy mates!
My entry for the
MSW Staff Build Contest is the following:
I will be building the
ASR-12 Penguin, submarine rescue and salvage vessel.

I will be using the Battlefleet Models KIT # BFM708
ATF FLEET OCEAN TUG with some slight modifications/alterations to the kit, on a waterline base build as in the image...

I'm quite excited about both this AND our "Community Build" running in parallel!
Cheers,
~Gunny

Ah yes, mon ami, I actually do build models still ( a little at a time!! ), I have many lying about the shop in various stages of completion...
I'm very excited about this, Jean-Bernard, I've been dying to build this kit from BFM, and also, it gives me a good reason to actually complete a model!

Good looking ship Mark, it'll be nice to have you openly building with the rest of us.
Now, I better run out and pick up my local newspaper!

Aye, my friend, I hope that I can follow through and actually COMPLETE a build this year!
Seriously, though, I'm very excited about this project, and with both contests (Community and Staffers Build) rolling full steam....gonna be a VERY BUSY year at MSW, maties!
Cheers,
~Gunnny

Thanks Bruce, I too agree that the subject is very cool...ever since the release of the Fleet Tug kit from BFM, I've been longing to tackle a build of it, and with the suggestions and help from Harry Abbott, I arrived at the final decision of this certain variant of the vessel, as my subject of choice....here's to a great build, and a great contest!

Here's a closer shot of the vessel:

A man after my own heart.......

Originally Dade, I was going to build it as a Coast Guard fleet tug, but with a tip from Harry Abbott, easily was swayed to this variant....there will be some slight modifications needed with the kit, (bumper mod, deck house mod, deck canopy additions, and a few other tids of bits), and actually, our collaboration has spawned a
limited edition kit that will soon be released by BFM of the vessel.......

Hmmm, a USCG fleet tug you say... That's really got the wheels turning and the wallet creaking.

Aye mates, hard to believe I know, but I actually put aside my Editors hat this weekend for a bit to make a little headway on my Staffers Build entry...

A little sanding, gluing, and even a bit of test railing added to my little tug...

Much more construction, filling, sanding, and PE additions to go, my friends...
And another fortnight til the next update? More than likely!!!
And so, I continue..............

Off to a great start there Mark. And a nice choice for a build as well.

Yes, I know, I know....there was a time, mates, that I actually built a model every few weeks...but, that was then!
Small!?!
Jan, you said a mouthful, there, my friend...1/700 is not my scale of choice, although I have messed in the scale before, and it's a hoot trying not to inadvertantly damage any of the build as you're working on it...the PE is something else...the doors and hatches, nearly microscopic to my big hands and failed eyes!

BUT, I'm having alot of fun with this build...great subject, great model kit to work from, and a great bunch of guys to share it with...

Mark, maybe you ought to wait for the 1/350 ATF(LOL).
I did not see the decal sheet in your initial photo, did I forget to include it in the kit?
I can send you one, if you need it for the "12"

H, my friend, I do have a decal sheet from one of the last shipments that I received from BFM...I don't think that the decal was in your inventory back when the ATF was first released...(or I didn't get one THEN!

 )
And a 1/350 ATF would be a great build!
