Serhan,

Your project looks similar to mine over in the "Waterline" campaign. I have no doubt yours will be top notch.

Rich and Dan

Welcome aboard! Looking forward to your projects.

I think I've settled on an entry: the USS Agamemnon (former German liner Kaiser Wilhelm II) escorted by the USS Montana (the armored cruiser, not proposed super battleship) in 1:350. Gotta love the Great War camo patterns!

Hi all,

Here is my entry for the campaign, Fujimi's 1/700 Zuikaku.

I painted her in her 1944 camouflage scheme, using instructions from Tamiya's Zuikaku kit as a reference. She wore this camo scheme during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, serving as part of the Japanese decoy force.

As the kit was very old, I replaced all the AA guns, boats, etc with spares from Tamiya kits. I also scratch-built additional gun platforms at the bow and stern of the ship. While I am no expert on this subject, it seems that Fujimi's kit portrays an earlier Zuikaku, while the Tamiya one is the 1944 configuration.

Comments welcomed!

p.s. IMHO, fujimi's kit of Zuikaku is *bad*...poor fit and poor details... anybody who wants to build a Zuikaku should do themselves a favour and build Tamiya's one instead.

I was planning on doing my 1/35 scale Elco for this campaigne but with other projects getting in the way and taking to long to do because of not enough time.I,ll be doing a smaller project the Airfix HMS Belfast that I have just been given by my kids for Xmas. This way I can finnish it before the deadline Have made a start on her over the holiday period and will build the kit OOB and put it in a waterline base in the Atlantic colour scheme

Great work gentlemen.

I'm ready Tully's "Battle of Surigao Strait and learned an interesting fact about Ozawa's carrier force at Leyte. The Mobile Fleet was not to have been the paper tiger it became when it sailed. The Japanese were training new aircrews to fully equip all the carriers. Ozawa's orders were to lure the 3rd Fleet's carriers away and inflict damage to the force. Unfortunately, the carrier air fleet was tapped for replacements for land based squadrons and thus left Ozawa with a marginal airwing when she sailed.

On a side note, Halsey said after the battle that it would have been better if the 3rd Fleet was at the Marianas and Spruance's 5th Fleet was at Leyte.

I am finally catching up with this thread and GB; my apologies for being absent until now!

Dave - Nice job on your trio of ships. I also like the water effect, job well done!

Steve - Good job on the resin ship; hull looks much better now.

Jorge - Looking good. I am a PE newbie, and Gator's glue amde all the difference on my second attempt at small PE pieces. Plenty of time to move the part around.

Jan - That is a sweet boat.. look forward to your U boats, as usual!

Karl - Really look forward to the repulse, nice to hear it is a sweet kit.

David - Great idea about the turrets; Im filing that one away for future use Nice finished product

Jim - Look forward to your build! You dont need a carpet to eat your small parts, I manage to lose stuff on a tile floor!

Serhan - nice 'spread" there for your build! nice start, look forward to the rest.

Dan - welcome aboard! The flight deck camo looks great, look forward to your project!

Shaun - nice work, camo came out great!

Lawrence - nice work on that old kit. Flight deck came out great. And thanks for the FYI about which kit is better!

Keith - Look forward to your build; I love the art box of that kit.

*phew* a lot of good work in here!

I am still planning on doing the Fletcher, but will probably "downscale" and do the tamiya waterline 1:700 OOB instead of the Tamiya 1:350 with PE.

Hi James!

The Repulse is almost finished, but the railings are taking a lot time and effort because of the way I modify them. I remove all the horizontal bars except for the bottom one and rig monofilament line where the bars used to be. The result is a much more in-scale effect, but it's tedious work....

Um, that is an interesting technique and idea. I also imagine that the monofilament will have a more "rounded" (3D) look than flat PE. Will have to give it a try someday, thanks for sharing!

A change from Warspite as advertised, however, when I think of camo, I
think of Norman Wilkinson, the WW1 artist who evloved camo scheme for
the RN, and merchant ships.

This exercise is a homage to NW and shows Battle Fleet Models tramp
steamer Drumgeith at 700 scale as the subject. I have downloaded a
scheme from the web which shows port and stab plus other detail, and
translated it onto the sides of Drumgeith as shown.

I have used Tamiya masking tape over a hull painted in WEM tyre black,
and added a coat of Humbrol white up to the masking lines. When removed,
the effect is quite pleasing. This won't be the Drumgeith version with
the sails - I think someone else did that.

I continue........

Nice one yourself, Keith, and the holiday has made all the difference with two of my builds recently completed, posted on this site.

The Drumgeith camo shoiuld be a quick build however I can see a destroyer in the dio as well - I shall have to resist for the time being otherwise like everything else it will take ages to finish.

Keep posting, guys.

Looking good Serhan. Opening up all those windows on the bridge faceplate must have been very time consuming. Great job!

How is your Kamoi scratchbuild project coming along?
