Under the category of "better late than never" I've begun work or my HNoMS St Albans. This is the 1/400 scale Airfix kit, that is really a Mirage Hobby kit. My review of this kit is here.
https://modelshipwrights.kitmaker.net/review/4435It's not a bad kit, but if I had done a build review, instead of in the box, I'd probably have rated it lower. The biggest issue is the complete lack of locating pins. This is especially bad when assembling the hull.

The other issue is the instructions, which could be clearer. This is compounded by the fact that one assembly, which might have 15 or so pieces, is sometimes spread among 3 different sprues.
When assembly is done I plan on painting her in a modified Western Approaches camo scheme. The instructions, being an Airfix kit, give all Humbrol paint colors. I've used an online color matching site to convert these to either Tamiya or Model Master paints. I'm really looking forward to seeing this one painted, as it should add a nice splash of color to my display shelf.

The wonderful thing about Battlefleet Models is that they are wonderful things, clean and easy to build, and Drumgeith is up there with Hog Islander, and the ATF tug range. Suddenly you realise that the model is coming to life, and the fine lines of this little kit echo that feeling.
So, I'm 90% there now with these illustrations, and I love the result - just the davits, more awning rails, and the rig to go. I could actually finish this campaign on time!

Hello,
Rui, thank you. This is first month passed, my father had serious coroner bypass op. he is feeling very well ok now.
Mr.Fulgoney, thank you for your comment.
I tried to detail up two motor launch on board via Flyhawk's IJN Boat set. Parts are fitting excellent together.

Serhan - Looks nice Serhan; look forward to the final product! I know about family/health issues, took me off my work bench (and other activities) for almost a year… hope everything is back or close to normal! LOVE what you did for the deck and your detailed PE work.
Rodger – nice review! And I am starting AFTER you
Peter – Great work as usual, interesting subject.
Keith – very nice job; love the water base! Love the pic from the bow, ship looks menacing!
I have started my Fletcher, except I have downscaled from the old Tamiya 350 classic to the 700 scale waterline due to time constraints. The “good” part of the 700 Waterline version is the lack of any details whatsoever; therefore, you do not need to scratch Aztec stairs or off-scale doors before putting PE replacements. The ship is a blank canvas! I will see how much PE I add, being a relative rookie at this, will post pics this weekend.
Cheers, James

Thank you James.
I need to know personal opinions about sea color I've done. So I can revise before fix MAru to base. I think its too greenish. Any input ?

Serhan - Iam no expert, but the second version looks better to me... first one was too "green", but keep in mind that photos may look different than reality. Wish i could be of more help!

Serhan the blue doe,s look the better of the two but could you not try and mix the two together to get a greenish blue effect. But this depth of clour would depend on the depth of water you are trying to show shallow or deep water. If deep water I would go for a darker mix of the two. Hope this gives you some ideas

Drumgeith is marvellous Mr.Fulgoney.
I received Pitroad gun platform floor p.e. parts today but, it seems I can not use them cuz they designed much larger. Checked sizes of platforms of other kits and they can be nice for Notoro's platforms
Played with base and done very small things. I guess, I can not finish this maru on time anyway.

Cheers, Serhan, I'm only trying to keep up with you.
I agree with the guys that the blue water is more realistic. - getting there - a great exercise is how to build, and get the camo nice and sharp.

Kudos on the steamer and on the green water, Peter!
It's amazing how varied the sea is not only in texture, but in color as well.

Isn't the last minute wonderful? If it wasn't for the last minute nothing would get done. Here is my final entry for the Camouflaged Ships campaign. The 1/400 scale Airfix HNoMS St Albans.

I liked, and hated, the kit due to it's somewhat poor instructions, lack of positive location points, and very fiddly parts. Still it was fun and I'll probably get another, possibly USS Ward, along with a P.E. set to really get it to shine. These "four pipers" really call out for a state of the art kit, possibly in 1/144 scale.
To illustrate the size I am showing it along with the 1/400 scale Mazur, and 1/350 scale The Sullivans.

Even allowing for the difference is scale you can see how far destroyer size progressed from WWI, the St Albans, and WWII, The Sullivans. Also the original name for destroyers was "torpedo boat destroyers." The Mazur started out life as the German torpedo boat V-105. You can see why torpedo boat destroyers were able to destroy the much smaller torpedo boats.

Peter – fantastic build as always, not to mention the water base. Ditto on the various colors and textures achieved.
Rodger – congrats on the finish! Nicely done and a neat addition to your “flotilla”.
Great campaign with many high-quality builds.
Alas, due to family medical issues, my Fletcher did not even get started... I will move it to the Divine waterline campaign : )
