Joining the fun with another Bogue class. USS Nassau CVE-16.

The history, of the kit not the ship!
I accquired it as a half-built kit off ebay a couple years back. What I really was after was the bonus Toms CVE PE set plus it also comes with a USN CV set. The previous owner already made a start using the CVE set, with a slightly untidy radar tower mounted on the island. The deck was also glued on already, with a rather heavy coat of primer which I suspect was either of the automotive variety or the airbrush was seriously clogged up. The result is a corrugated metal texture..

So after pulling apart the deck and some sanding to rid of the more glaring textures, things progressed quickly in the past 5 days if some of the sub-assemblies are somewhat more 'advanced' than I'd like.

I don't think the navy blue 5-n is that accurate..I'm lazy so I used the same colour on the planes and didn't bother with remixing the hull colour

The airwing are the kit supplied planes, wings cut to simulate wing folds. Nicely molded and with good recessed lines. If only Dragon/Trumpeter's clear aircrafts can have similar injection technology (their sets should come with a tube of putty!)

PS: David, my deck decal fitted reasonably well (to me at least). I used Gunze's Mr. Mark Softer, a 'hotter' decal setting solution in the market that I'm aware of - It even worked with Academy decals, SOMETIMES. Didn't even cut the strip that goes over the catapault, applied straight and ended up Okay I reckon.

Nice salvage job Jim!

I hit a little road block with the Hornet as part C-27 is missing from the sprue, so I'll need to fabricate a part.

I'm cruising along on the superstructure and some of the other items that attach to the deck, which are just dry fitted for the photos.

Just started the 1:400 Bearn and oh, what a throwback! I know it's a limited edition kit, but the molding is 1960's standard. However, it's still better than having to scratchbuild.

I had alway wondered why we hardly get to see any of these built. When I started mine for this campaign, I was enthusicstic, but I wasn't ready for the kit. I shelfed it after preliminary work on the hull. I am really looking forward to see what you do with the kit.
Cheers,
Guido

This is the Essex so far base coats on but will probably not get it all done by deadline day unless we have extetion. Got caught up with other builds that took to long and work being so busy this year which is good but not much time for other stuff

Will do my best to get the main bit done in the next couple of days

Sorry guys, work has had me out of pocket for a while. I am looking into an extension.

I awarded ribbons to blaster76, lawlzw, thediggs, and winks147. They are the only people that I have completion pictures for. If you finished and didn't get a ribbon post a completion picture in the campaign gallery or this thread and I'll hook you up.

Sorry for getting into the game a bit late! I had been off the site for a while as I was moving. Now that I'm settled, I'm back online and have pulled out a USS Franklin / USS Santa Fe diorama I started over the summer.

Looking forward to finnishing it and following everyones progress!

Hi guys! I think I finished by the extended date. But, I'm having trouble posting pics to the gallery, and tried messaging Jim and Mark but I keep getting an "update your e-mail" message.

Anyhow, if you could be so kind to transfer these pics over to the completed gallery? Sorry to be a pain!

- Steve

Also, if anyone has a better idea on how to make smoke not look stupid, I would be much obliged. On this one, I tried to shape it first, then sprayed 3 different shades of black/dark gray.

Thanks!
