OK, some progress over the weekend which meant finishing off the base with a more organic looking sea than the "neoploitan effect" I was getting before, and it's go ahead with the ship input to include -

Gracie Fields, Barge, tugboat, RN sloop (all of them Finewaterline kits), and as shown.

The effect is a very busy one, and I wanted this to look intense so, the aircraft explosions, and troops will make it that must more of an organised confusion - hoping...........

Another thing about cutting away unwanted resin without beathing in the dust is to use a "hot knife". I show this as I use it, and the results but it is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands so be aware, and get pernission before doing carrying out any hot knife operations.

The resin should peel away like butter - the wider hulls are more difficult so again, some patience is needed.

We continue..........

Look what's just turned up - only the small boats set by David Griffith,

Just to correct Peter on that one, David only did the barges, all the other items in the kit were mastered by me.

These are the only instructions, and heading with the pack, Mike.

I looked for a download after I read your comment but I can't find a link or anything that refers to this specific package. Some images on my computer are missing so I assume that those are the ones that explain everything.

cheers,

Cheers, Roy, I was wondering where to put that ladder up to the bridge!

All is now clear........

And, thanks, Mike, it always helps to have the instructions although as you can see above sometimes not..............

And so we continue with the multi ship dio. I have chosen the smaller ships in the packs icluding Aberdare which is slightly smaller than Mike's HMS Wellington which I shall try later.

Some addition to the water effect, and then it's all about hopping from one build to the next - a good idea if you want one of them to glue and have to wait.

I will fix that bridge tonight, Roy...................

In detail, the blue "Rizzla" paper is for the sails on the barge. The colour wash is a Mig pre mixed solution which I thought was close to what I wanted. This will be torn - refer back to the originally posted pictures featuring the barge on the beach.

The tug - Sun - is undergoing some minor changes. I have made the bridge structure open instead of the resin part, and I will need a funnel as well.

The cotton wool with the varnish effect is my first try at an explosion in the water - some research and development at the moment.

I've just printed those off thanks, Mike, and to confirm, it's 3 pages of A4 to include two ships plans and elevations together with history, parts list - to obtain from other sources, photographs of the ships, and web link to........I've yet to look.

For £8 plus postage, a complete bargain.

A bit of progress to report. HMT St Abbs and her string of 32'cutters has been added to the diorama base and now just awaits the addition of HMS Scimitar. The rigging on Scimitar has not been going as well as hoped, mainly due to clumsiness in detaching rigging lines already fixed while trying to fit the next ones. Anyway, nearly there with this diorama

I this works I am indebted to Harry as well as Rui!

Oh well, it seems you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Any way, the picture is in the In Progress gallery for the Operation Dynamo gallery

OK, Don, we'll try and get those pictures posted for you.

And, I have altered the bridge on Aberdare, and continued small detail and painting on the various ships.

While all this is going on, it's time to start boarding those men and so I have started the lines down the beach towards the ships and boats.

To keep them all straight, I have used a cocktail stick which also helps keeping them from getting drunk and falling over. Before they are too set, I remove the sticks to see if they are all at the right angle, and give them a "push" with the cocktail stick if not.

So this doesn't become too mind blowing, I will shift to something else to do, and come back to it..............

Nice one, Gunny!, and great modelling, Don, I can see where the destroyer goes - a good composition and storyline - that's what it's all about.

I just got my E class destroyer in yesterday. I'll be building either the Esk or Express. Now to research how many troops they carried on a specific day.

Kenny
Esk 29/5 - 284, 30/5 884, 31/5 am 951, pm 99, 1/6 556, 3/6 326

Express 30/5 1067 (crowded!) pm 864, 31/5 am 482, pm 467, 4/6 611.

I think Express was one of the ships fitted as a minelayer, haven't checked though

And we expect accuracy with those figures now!

I have my subject. I'll be portraying the HMS Express taking on passengers.

Anybody have any ideas how to make a 1/700 scramble net?

Always good to have a picture to base the scene on, and there's a great one, Kenny, we're looking forward to this one.

700 scale scamble net is my IKEA net curtain - or any fine net curtain.

Let me know if you have a problem......

I wish I had known Peter's tip about scramble nets earlier as I have just finished my diorama of HMS Scimitar and HMT St Abbs. I used the mesh from an old cafetiere for my net, but I think the Ikea curtain idea is better, even if it does mean running the gauntlet of furniture and knick knacks in the process.
After an impressive international list of people who have proffered advice on posting photos (for which many thanks) I feel obliged to have another go.
This time I used Internet Explorer as the instuctions Gunny advised match this better than when I use Firefox which is my usual browser. Lets see!
