Thanks, guys, and yes it is very complex. I have said this before, and the reason being is that I didn't want to spend up to a year dealing with a larger base. The content is all about small ships with the least amount of shorline I could get away with - all on display at Telford on the Finewaterline stand - soon.

From the little image I see, Don, it's looking the business - let's see more, here, now, please.

And finally, I am drawing to a close with this project. The little detail that has to go on won't make a lot of difference. I have started rigging, placing more men in the scene, and the sails to the barge - our favourite Rizla blue ciggarette paper with MIG stain.

And now, I have placed on a Stuka without the brass rod stand. It may be difficult to see but there is a strand of Caenis fishing line from the top of the barge mast to the Aberdare mast and then rear mast and then back to the barge. The Stuka just sits on top of the "V" formed by the fishing line.

Cheers,

Cali-Telford-here we come. There will be a major feature at Telford this year on the Finewaterline stand which marks 70 years since the Dunkirk evacuation.

My build will be there together with Don's, Mike's, and Roy's. I'm not sure who else will be showing but I will no doubt report back here once I've got over the excitement.

I've just recieved another batch of GMM figures so you might see me still placing these on the dio on the day!

See you there.

It was great to see all the Dunkirk dioramas at Telford. The Finewaterline display attracted a lot of attention. I won't steal the thunder of the other contributors, but here is my effort showing HMS Bideford with forty feet blown off her stern when her depth charges were detonated in a bombing attack.

HMS Kellett was an Aberdare class minesweeper which served as a survey ship pre-war before being re-converted for minesweeping, hence the superstructure and armament differences from the standard Aberdare appearance. She took off the troops which Bideford had rescued before the bombing attack.

The tug St Clears is approaching to attempt a tow, but Bideford drifted aground and was finally pulled off and towed back to Dover by the gunboat Locust.

A few more pictures

HMS Kellett comes alongside the damaged HMS Bideford.

The damaged Bideford

The damaged stern

As this is my first campaign, do the pictures need to go in a campaign gallery? and if so how should it be done?

Cheers

What wonderful work, Don! I am especially impressed with the oil effects and the dense troop concentration you have forward. The damage reminds me of a photo of HMS Bittern after her stern was blown off during the Norway campaign in 1940. Along with Peter's work on this project, it's great to see other action scenes coming together.

That's a great contribution thanks, Don, and a highly original composition. The damaged stern is a great work of art, and the water discolouration is perfectly done. Everthing else is just brilliant.

I beleive this campaign has been exemplary in making us all think about the ultimate dio, and has taken some of us into new realms of model makng. I certainly found that with the water explosions, and a method of trying to portray an arcraft without the metal rod strut to hold it in place.

I took a number of pictures of the stand at Telford, and that is up next............

I think the crown on this campaign is the cumulative work of the Fine Waterline SIG at Telford. I took a number of photographs of the stand, and invividual builds for your enjoyment..............

The group photograph features Filipe Ramires, Jim Smith, Roy Allen with Don McKeand strapped to his back, Jim Baumann, Hmmmmm, Mike McCabe, and Rob Kernaghan on the end. We were flying "missing man" formation as Rui was somewhere out there in the halls...........

Hi Peter!

I am participating in the Anti-Shipping campaign with Aeroscale and will experiment with a presentation method inspired by my use of the simple Retouch feature in my computer's photo program. In effect, I will try to find the right type of mounting to suspend an aircraft model in the physical diorama but make that mounting disappear in the photos with a click of the mouse.

I'm sure there are more advanced methods of conjuring graphics wizardry, but not being a computer graphics type myself, I hope employing a basic photo technique while keeping the aircraft a permanent part of the diorama scene will allow our aircraft to appear in flight without relying on smoke columns and such.

Yes that works very well, Karl, someone did it for my Red Arrows dio, and it looked like they were flying.

The best part about the fishing line routine is that it's a winner in real life as well which I must pay attention to as the builds all go on display - the line is hard to see.

Good luck with Photoshop.

And finally for me, I can't think of anything else to put in the dio that might make it even more overcooked than it is already, but I can say that I enjoyed the build and thoroughly recommend the Finewaterline kits, and building smaller ships.

I have learned how to make reasonable water explosions, and recreate a pebble beach as well as a new method of suspending aircraft over the scene. These are all good things.

Thank you to all those who made models for this campaign, you are all winners!
