Nice things happening here!

Peter - Please don't put them planes on poles! I recommend to you to suspend them from some type of gallow made from flexible .2mm steel wire..

Please check Dirks work:

Can't quite see how Dirk did that but it's very effective, does the wire just bend over?

Never been happy with the sticking them on a wire approach so looks like a good alternative.

Hi, Mike!

Of cause Dirk did some Photoshop work to make the connetion disappear, which was quite easy since it is not run right through the picture.

In Dirk's dio he attached the gallow diretly to the tip of the wing.

Food for thought...

Cheers,

Guido/gallows wire/suspend - don't give me any ideas, Guido.

Yes, I am aware of the difference between what can be seen in real life and the photo version. Phot shop is the best way therefore but I haven't got it on my pc unfortunately, and yes I was thinking about other ideas as to how this can be done and I have a similar sketch to Dirk which I drew up a couple of years ago.

My idea for this on is to have the JU87 attached to the water explosion - work in progress.

I haven't submitted any detaiks for a while because I'm doing the railings on the ships - can be boring, and it takes ages.

BTW, Guido I can't see your build anywhere on this campaign board - do you need some help??

And, Jim, excellent! that just the look!

OK, carry on guys..........

Hi, Peter!
I have so many things on my table right now. I will do my best to make the campaign deadline, but there are a handful of things to accomplish for Telford and I am working on 2 magazine articles and a kit development.
Plus I can see 2 or 3 test production builds coming up...
I am trying not turn hobby into stress these days and it is quite difficult, indeed!
Cheers,
Guido

PS.: Does the above sketch help in any way, anyway???

I'm the only important consideration, Guido, I don't want to know about the rest, get building!

I already have a sketch, I'll put it up when I've found it. The difference is that my suspended aircraft are a squadron for my Das Blatt Wendet Sich!!! which I put aside to build "stand by your torpedoes" - now whose campaign was that???

Thanks for the explanation, photoshop explains it though!

Still a good idea worth trying, thanks Dirk if you are looking in.

Here's my progress so far. Sorry for the delay but personal issues have been keeping me from the bench.

Anyway, here's the layout, which I think I'm going to narrow down.

Does anyone have any details on the little coaster tied up next to the destroyer?

Kenny
Go to the bottom of this page and you can download the instructions for the coasters pack

http://www.finewaterline.com/pages/kitrange/dunkirk/coasters.htm

The smallest kit is a little motor lighter Bat, she was owned by Pickfords, a well known removal company in the UK. Not much in the way of details of this little one but she had as you can see from the photos a small open bridge with a funnel offset to starboard and a mast with derricks

Well done, Kenny, good progress, and nice composition building up there, and , thanks for keeping the flag flying while I've been away.

So, I've been hard at this altough its difficult to see any changes from the last submission.

I've always wanted to put in some explosions, and my research has helped a lot. I have used cotton wooll as a base for this, and stuck it to the base with pva. I then put little drops of pva onto the cotton wool to increase tehwater effect - but not too much. Every time I had leftover pva from another part of the build therefore, I would use this to add more drops the the explosion plume. The idea is not to weigh the wool down by drenching it bit adding bit by bit so that one layer dried before the next goes on. There's a long way to go yet.

In the meantime, I've added masts, rails , and details all round plus adding more men to the beach scene, and I've strated to build up the boats with figures as well.

One thing that has always occured to me is the closeness of everything but I go back to my first thioughts where I wanted to show some beach but not a full width presentation. This has compacted the ship comprise but then again the build is all out of my head anyway.

Once the explosion plume is high enough, there will be a Stuka attached to it thus avoiding the painted brass rod stand.

Hi Guys

Jim, great job on the Canterbury
Congratulations!!!

Kenny, coming very good... Keep up!

Peter,
It is a very impressive layout, full of action...
I have only one suggestion, and I hope that it's not too late for it:
Craters on the sandy beach

It would improve the action, imho!
BZ to all
I am still stalling with project ideas

Cheers,
Rui

I have 3 x craters, Rui, but not as deep as yours - perhaps the difference between stony sand in France, and Iwo Jima?

The other question which I have is the realism or parential guidance certificate - how pink is the water, and how red should the sand be?

Still a long way to go - I sure do pick 'em!

A bit of time to work on this one over the weekend, and so, some more detail on the Aberdare c ass, and paddle steamer.

As I work along I will also add to the number of figures in the scene. To do them in one go would be mind blowing!

Also, in the pictures they do look a bit flat, so I may have to use a blob of thick paint to make them look less like ginger bread men.

And so.................

This is almost like spot the difference but there are a number of figures now added as I finish another GMM fret of pe people.

I also added the rails to the Aberdare, and little boats alongside the paddle steamer.

As I go along, and there's some pva left, I add this to the explosion to create the tower of pva.

Finally, I will rig, and add the Stukas. The rig is so slight that a line between the Aberdare mast, and paddle steamer mast will hold the Stuka - therefore no brass rod support - in theory!

What a complex scene, Peter--and it's coming along nicely. I will soon be experimenting with other kinds of aircraft supports for the upcoming anti-shipping campaign on Aeroscale. With the basic photo program on my computer, I hope to be able to erase the supports on the imagery going onto the internet while keeping the planes a permanent part of the physical diorama. This way, I can move beyond burying wings into smoke columns.

Just to let you know that I haven't forgotten about the campaign. Some progress recently on the diorama to show HMS Bideford receiving assistance from MMS Kellett and St Clears after a bombing attack took off 40' of her stern.

St Clears is now finished, Kellett nearly so and Bideford has been started and damaged (deliberately!) and the baseboard painted.

With a bit of luck it might be finished for the Scalemodelworld show at telford in 12 days time.
