Gentlemen-
Welcome to the campaign. I hope you will find the time to give us shot of your project pile on the workbench and give us a little introduction into your subject: a bit of technical and historical stuff and what makes the subject so special for you to have picked it for this campaign. I hope to see lots of talk and progress shots and even trial, error , and fixes documentation.
Enjoy the show and don't foget to place your pic in the gallery when finished.
Cheers,
Guido

Here we go, HMS Manxman 1942 from the White Ensign HMS Abdiel 1943 kit.
Here's the Kit

I have dry fitted the main componants, to check fit, as you can see very little cleaning up will be needed.
I Have primed the hull, below is the colour scheme.

There is very little difference between the two vessels, the most noticable thing will be the backdating by replacing of the bridgewing 20mm with quad 0.5" vickers and the removal the most of the remainder.

Either a 1:144 Revell VII D with eduard etch or a 1:350 AFV VII D .... or both
Nice paint scheme Simon, looking forward to the next steps.

The big job with the hull was the camo. An hour or so of masking and it looked like this, (both sides)

5 minutes with the airbrush, 10 minutes cleaning up the airbrush and 10 minutes taking all the tape of, and I am here.

Solid work Simon, maybe the horizontal line under the deck is a bit too wide compare with the drawing ?
Well Guido - i still remember your VII D and is considering doing a "reverse" version - one with the aft visible - maybe even with visible screws and rudder in heavy seas.
Got some pictures showing the lids for the mineshafts flapping around ...

Hi Jan,
looking at it I think you are right, I reckoned 2.7mm when I scaled it off the drawing so used 3mm tape. But my calculations could have been off, just measured the drawing against the hull and pro - rata'ed it.
To be honest I think I can live with it, as the camo has come out fairly clean both sides.

Guido hope you do not mined ( no pun intended ) but I will be going down the Landmine warfare route for this one. If it is ok with you will be building something quite Modern, US army M1 Panther mineclearing tank. The main hull is that used by the M1A1 Abrahams these have been deployed in Iraq and Afganistan, Can be crew by 2 personel or used by remote control from a safe distance

I am all for it, Keith!
Should you look for a crew for your Panther you may have to resort to Trumpeter's Set No. 0424. I have searched far and wide but did not find any other non-resin Modern US AFV crew figures.

While you need only 2 of these you'll have 6 quite nice figures at the price of half a resin figure.
Cheers,
Guido

A bit more progress on Manxman, I have filed down the moulded watertight doors arounf the main superstucture units, and replaced with etched ones from WEM's RN w/t door / hatch set. Also some lesft over 1 bar railing was used to make the handrails around said units.

Also the mounts for the fwd pair of 20mm were removed from the after superstructure were removed, for the late 41 fit, as far as I can tell from pics the stillhad quad 0.5" vickers fwd and only one pair of 20mm aft. Was shown some pics from a private collection, that unfortunately I have not been able get permission from the owner to post showing this, although they do admit it could be HMS Welshman, and not Manxman, although the camo looks closer to the drawings of Manxman, so I am going with this.
I have picked out deck detials on the maindeck & pained deck & camo on the lower superstructure.

Here is all of the stuff I plan on using to make my small vignette of two British officers examining a mine that has broken free and washed up on a beach.

Thanks,
Randy

Love the work on the fast minleayer, Si!
I'll be looking forward to this, Harv!
Sorry folks for not pushing the thread right now: I've got a build for a magazine to finish before I go on vacation in 3 weeks time. I doesn't really leave me with a whole lot of time right now. I should be in full swing by mid/end August only.
Sorry 'bout that.
I hope however you are all starting your projects and let us have a good look at your progress.
Cheers,
Guido

Great idea Harv, Nice use of that old set of figures.
There is a bit more progress on Manxman, but didn't get time yesterday to get the pics off the camera. Will post them sometime in the week.

Nice progress Simon!
Personally I still have my VII D on hold due to participation in the "ships of the soviet union" build - but I plan on bringing it alon on vacation - as I plan a mostly out of the box build - only using the eduard etch.
So it should be pretty mobile and suited for travel

Looking good Simon, is that another penny size ship
I got started on my entry today, which will be similar to Randy's, I will be making a small dio with these Dragon Gen 2 kit
The figures have over 24 pieces to them not including their gear

And here is where I left off for dinner

Not much but hopefully more tomorrow.
Now a question for the campaign leader, Can I add a previously build vehicle to the Dio

If not that's ok, I'll just have to alter my plans

Hello, Sal!
If you build a full dio setup for these figures I will allow you to use a previously finished vehicle. Please take care that the mine clearing aspect stays at the center of attention in your dio. You're off to a good start, there. Keep it coming!

Guido

The weekend's progress on the Manxman.
The bridge has had it.s basic paint job and been glued in place.

The etched crane booms folded & assembled.

positioned and the after superstructure fixed in place. at the moment the cranes still rotate, to make the rigging easier. but they will be fixed.

The funnels have had their insides painted black, a coat of 507c on the exterior, and fixed in place. The plan is to mask & add the funnel stripes in place, with the hope that they will line up.

Midships searchlight platform needs painting & adding, some more detail on the bridge next i think
also need to start thinking about the base.
More soon
