Nice work Don, great looking little ships.

More progress on Manxman, started to add some detail to the bridge, voicepipes from wire and a few bits of plastic strip attached to the front / sides, a but more needed yet.

Liferafts and 3 out of the 4 boats added along with winches / cable reals on the maindeck, and anchor cables to the foclse.

Some pictures of the searchlight platform do show a framework behind the lights with the ship in this scheme, which I am assuming is training limits for that 20mm so that has been added along with said structure from brass rod

Have also started to lay down the wake & the sea.

quaterdeck, masts rigging railing and more layers of sea & wake to go.

A really interesting "cross discipline" theme with some excellent models. I have always had a sneaking regard for land warfare dioramas in particular.

Thanks for the comments on progress. Now the job is done and photos posted in the Campaign completed gallery..

The 3" guns are from Niko, the 20mm from GMM, railings from WEM. Everything else is scratchbuilt.

Now to pack it up and see if it survives the post to Norway.

Good campaign - thanks Guido.

Cheers

Hi Don

Nice build - just lacks a bit of crew ?

A little nitpick - i think the norwegian and danish
navy shares the same flag rules - so when in harbour
,or at anchor, the national flag will hang from a small
mast aft and a smaller version from a small
pole front - only at sea would the flag hang from
the main mast - port side.

Thanks Jan.

A good point about the flags. My only references for Norwegian YMSs show them at sea, so I will get that changed.

And crew - yes ,you are right it does look rather deserted. I guess that having just put over seventy 1/700 figures in landing craft for another project I couldn't stand the sight of any more! But the excuse that they are all on leave won't really do, so I will add some figures when I feel a little stronger.

Cheers

It by no means detracts from a beautiful little build!

I like the "late-afternoon" feeling conveyed by that lighting.
I sincerely hope you'll add just a deck watch!
Lovely build! Bravo Zulu!

Better now?
Flags have been moved moved to staffs aft (an anxious time removing them without damaging rigging) but my skills don't extend to painting jacks at this scale. Seven crew figures have been added, although they don't show up much on the picture.

Almost there.

Rigging masts and yard up, rigging all but finished, a few minor details to add, a bit of discrete weathering, the foil on the base triming up & she is done.

Don't forget to put together some nice shots with background for the gallery to earn your ribbon.

Lovely job Simon. That Mediterranean camouflage is very striking.

Looking forward to seeing her at Telford.

Well I finally got started on my project. Luckily I still have a couple of months to go to get it finished.

I plan on having these two "adventurous" British officers checking out a German EMC mine that has broken free and washed up on a beach...somewhere. The officers are from an old Italeri set of figures. The mine I scratchbuilt with a ping pong ball, some styrene rod, some sprue pieces and some items from my spares bin and what not collection. I am sure that the mine isn't to scale but it is pretty close based on photographs that I used for research. I plan on building up the "beach" so that the officers are a little higher than they are now and I want to bury some of the mine in the sand. The base is a peanut butter jar lid that I painted with textured spray paint.

So anyway this is where I am at with my entry.

Thanks,
Randy

Very nice!
I like the ping-pong approach. Good choice of figures, too!
I think the loops are bit too big. Being in your place I would replace them with .4mm brass rod.

Guido

Bravo Zulu, Si!

Now that I have finished my AAVP, I may finally get to join in the action. Need to clean up the workbench, though!
Let's see what I can do...

Welldone Simon!

I have a hard time getting in the mood to finish my 1:144 revell VII D - would a 1:350 Z-25 destroyer from Trumpeter qualify ? it can both lay and sweep mines

I think that in the interest of time I will have to forgo any type of display base so that I can focus on my ship build. I can always learn how to make water later.

Jan- Since Z25 wasn't a minelayer by designation, but a destroyer with said capability, you should show it with either a deckload of mines, being loaded with mines at the harbor, or while "laying the eggs" to fulfill the requirements of the campaign.
I won't make it to Lübeck next spring, but Frank, Christian, Dirk, and maybe Torben will be at the show.

Jeremy- That may be the way to go, but I reckon, that I will ask Jim to extend the campaign to 29th February or 31st March, anyway. That should give you some time to let your boat swim and fulfill your management obligation over at the Great War Campaign (which I really look forward to!).

Cellar, garage, and workbench are cleaned up. Today I will bring the garden into shape for winter and then it is time to start participating with a bit of modelling myself.
These are the choices: WEM's Ledbury, HMS Abdiel, L'Arsenal's MSO in 1/350th or their MSC60 in 1/400th scale, Hellers M35/M38, a 1/35th dio with a contact mine manufactured by Schatton, or a scratchbuilding project .
Damn, it seems it's going take me a week to decide...

Cheers,
Guido

Here are some in-progress photos of my project.

I still have a lot of work to do. Once the mine is weathered and glued in place I am going to add some water to make the scene look a little more realistic. I thought the sea shells would help show that the mine is at the waters edge. Hopefully I will have some more in-progress photos soon.

Thanks,
Randy

I planned on that as well. It was my son's idea. I figured it would help give it that "abandoned look".

Thanks again,
Randy
