Ahoy mates!

This Campaign is a GO!

We now have 10 builders signed on (with LOTS of room for more!), the minimum for sanctioned approval, so lets start planning those builds mates!!

Please use this thread for all of your pre-campaign discussions, so we can all stay on the same page with our builds...this should be a VERY interesting Campaign!!!

I'd like to hop on board, just need to do some research first. I'm leaning towards a Z Class Destroyer on a mine-laying operation.

Dudes, check out the campaign main-page now!

Guido just sent a killer banner and the award ribbon for this campaign, and I've added them to the page...feel free to link the banner to your forum posts if you're participating!

Cheers,

Gentlemen!

Thank you very much for enlisting.

Out of pure selfishness I would like to draw your attention to this item from WEM:

HMS Ledbury

If WEM receives orders for 25 of these little beauties, they put out a re-run. I hope to be able to lure some of you this way.

Cheers,
Guido

Please be noted that I do not have a commercial interest in promoting this kit, I just want to be able to buy one!

Signed up. I think I will go with Jan's suggestion and try to find a submarine VII D minelayer. Otherwise there is still the seaplane back up.

Looking forward to get started.

Great to have you aboard, Jesper and all you others as well. Since we have an abundance of time until the campaign will take off, I would like to welcome you all to put down kit recommendations of previous mine layer/sweeper kits (planes, AFV, figures) while we wait.

I can whole-heartedly recommend the Type VII D by Revell in 1:144, just in case you are looking for something bigger. It's top shelf money value and quite easy to come by.

and of cause then there is the excellent Tripartite Class minesweeper from L'Arsenal both in 1/400 and 1/350.

I will probably do AFV clubs 1:350 VII D - either full hull or some kind of waterline diorama.

am in, WEM HMS Abdiel, 1/350th, I am going to do a bit more research on the class before I decide which exact ship at what date I am going to build, depending on history, fit ,& camoflage scheme. (not necessarily in that order)

looks like some interesting builds coming up

Great!
There quite few choices and will probably change my mind 20 times over until the campaign starts.
Right now I am thinking about the German M35 - Class minehunter by Heller in 1/400. I got this kit and zons of WEM 400thPE that should help to build a good model.
Of cause, if I can get a HMS Ledbury kit 'til then...
;)

Gentlemen,

here's something completely off the naval track, but entirely befitting the campaign:

This lovely 1/35th scale figure of a German DAK engeneer is from CMK, the well known Czechian maker. It cries "vientte" out loud!
Any takers?

Chers,
Guido

... on another note it seems that interest for the WEM Ledbury Minesweeper is high enough to start production. The kit should be availbale in spring in good time for this campaign. So said Dave Carter at The Show.
The production run will not be huge, so preorder your copy now before someone else does.

I'll be introducing the MSC minesweeper from L'Arsenal soon and will order the latestest release the MSO minesweeper as well and review it here.

Cheers,
Guido

Hi Guido

like the Afrika Corps Engineer figure, looks like a great casting.

Also note Mini art has released a set of Royal Engineers figures engaged in mine clearance that will make a nice little vignette.

Still doing an Abdiel class as my main build for this campaign, but do something with the figures as bit of fun on the side. I have a special interest as my father was in the Engineers in Normandy, building bridges & airfields mind, but still the same mob

Can the model be a sea mine on it's own?

But of cause it can be a mine by itself. Maybe one of those excellent 1/35 contact mines developped for the Italerie S-100 kit by Cammet? How about putting a sailor next to it?

Guido

They would surely do nicely, but you will have to strip and disassemble them and rebuild and -paint them within the confines of the campaign dates

This would be as good a reason as any to build the Revell VII D I got from Modelzone 1/2 price a while ago....

Interesting beast Guido, does look like it belongs in science fiction rather than ww2.

I wonder, did it actually work?
