Julian, don't you think that the aircraft color should be brighter? Take a look at this osprey: http://www.navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=105862

I think the Osprey will turn out about like that with the matt varnish on. I think I have things under control again Daniel but thank you for the link, nice photo and I notice what looks like an anti icing boot on the leading edge of the wing.
cheers,
Julian

Yesterday I received the additional Marine Aircraft set from MRC/Gallery Models. But contrary to the instruction sheet, there are only two each AV-8B, AH-1W, SH-60F, CH-46E, CH-53E and MV-22B ( the sheet says four each CH-46E, CH-53E and MV-22B). But it seems as if Trumpeter/MRC/Gallery Models/whoever created the sheet simply copied parts of the Wasp's instructions, but forgot to change the numbers. So I just ordered another set (in my eyes cheap at US$ 8.69...) to have eventually six AV-8Bs, six AH-1Ws, four SH-60Fs and eight each CH-46E, CH-53E and MV-22B. The SH-60Ks included in the Wasp kit won't be used. And then I'll decide if I want to have a CH-46E- or MV-22B-equipped squadron aboard...

Julian, outstanding work on the ship and nice job on the Osprey. Just curious, if it is going to be in the hangar bay, why didn't you rotate the wings to the stowed position? Have a Happy New Year, and thanks for sharing your build with us!

Have been away for a little while but am back now. Beautiful work you done so far Julien and looking forward to seeing more. Warren if the Chokai is the Aoshima Kit in 1-350 then you will have your work cut out fot her. Doing the Takao is a right pain but will keep building her.....Cheers Mark

The lower number of aircraft included would explain the price tag Daniel. Still sounds like a good deal though. Your stash list seems to be growing

Hi Thomas, I didn't like the way the Osprey looks with the wing rotated to stowage position, simple as that My knowledge of the service use of the Osprey is virtually non-existent though so maybe my portrayal of the Osprey in this fashion is completely wrong

Thanks Mark, Happy new year to you and yours. Nice of you to drop in and take a peek at the Wasp, one of my slowest builds to date I think

@Mark, it is the revised edition which looks to have much better vents etc. But I have read that the fit can be a bit hit and miss... But I will battle on..

@Julian, fireworks have been banned in Qld for decades now. We used to have cracker night on the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June, and I still remember leaving a few smoking poles where letter-boxes used to be...

I thought I'd share some in-box pictures of the 1/350 Trumpeter LCS-1, please excuse poor quality:

Good luck with the lighting Julian, I shall follow with close Interest.
Working on the Airfix Illustrious, but with only the view into the hanger through the elevators I will wait until I have got the full together before I make any decision on lighting.

Thanks Simon, did you get a PE set for the Illustrious? The kit itself is a great subject and as usual I was very much tempted to buy it but I saw a couple of OOB build photos and it seems a bit bland without some extra detailing, ( would be a great weathering job though portraying a through deck carrier after spending a couple of months in the Falklands).
Have a happy new year,
cheers,

The raised detail on the flight deck may be correct Julian. In WW2 they used to put a weld bead around where the ships numbers should be painted, so I am wondering if this is supposed to do the same thing, a paint guide when repainting the markings.

Thanks for the link, I hadn't found this one

Hi Julian, I do have the WEM PE for Illustrious, and some additional aircraft for the airwing as well.
The kit is a bit chunky and basic, but I think with a bit of love and attention she will come out ok.

December 31st update:
Last update of 2011 The first Osprey is finished and I know now where the problems will be with colours, decals etc. I have started working on the hangar bay again and the first two Leds have been placed out of sight from viewing angles through the elevator doors. Big white Leds that should make it possible to see inside the hangar bay. I have also used the first piece of Mk 1 PE: excellent first impression: small tabs connecting the parts to the metal sheet, excellent fit, measuring is spot on and the metal itself can be bent a couple of times with no sign of breaking. Makes me a happy camper

Thats all for now, happy new year to you all
