Just jumping in here, on the lighting; I was part of the retrofit to NVD compatible lights on Navy ships. Initially installed on LHD-6 (2003) in the well deck so simultainouse night ops could be conducted on the flight and in the well decks. LCAC drivers loved them as they could now enter leave the ship goggled up.
By the way I am a Marine(Ret) and "Brown Shoe" at that...was happy to help out the Navy here. It only took me and some dedicated civilian engineers 3 years to convince the Surface Navy to make the switch from red/amber to blue/green.
By the way, in the movie "Zero Dark Thirty", the well deck night scene appears to be aboard LHD-6 (BHR).

Thanks for clearing up the colour issue that has been bugging me for nearly a year Craig. I always wondered why the merchant ships I sailed on used red lights on the bridge and in the chart room as compared to the multitude of green photos around on the Wasp-class vessels. Semper fi sir,
best regards,
Julian

The weathering of the flight deck is fantastic. Best I've seen. The weathering on the hull, not so much. The vertical weathering on the hull should not extend into the hull below the waterline. That should be more of a horizontal/chip appearance, particularly toward the bow. Also, get some good pics of the ship class to see that the rust should be a little more subtle. Granted, the Wasp class is a workhorse class, but modern USN ships are maintained to a pretty high level.

Please don't take my comments harshly. The only way we become better ship builders is seeking the honest input of our peers. Your overall build is very good. And, note my remarks about the flight deck. Best to you

Julian, totally awesome ship model. I really like you final result. I just purchased this from a fellow modeler and really looking forward to build it soon. Right now, I'm on research gathering mode. I know I'm couple years late, but I sure would have loved to see your WIP pics as well. I'll be honest I haven't read 27 pages of your work to see what all you used on it. Can you tell me what aftermarket products you used on her? I sure appreciate you sharing you work. TIA.

Hi Mike,
the WIP photos disappeared when I bailed out of Photobucket. I still have them but I have no plans to repost them, the Wasp is history for me now. I used the MK.1 photo etch set, excellent stuff and a few additional sets of deck equipment and aircraft. The crewmen are from Fujimi 1/350 WW II crewmen sets. Thats all.

Julian, thanks for the quick respond. No problem on the old pics and thanks for the info on stuff you used. So, since you did great with this ship what is on your bench now?

Check out the "Channel Adversaries" and "Building the mighty Bismarck" threads here online. I also have evil intentions with the 1/200 USS Hornet I just bought, (review also posted here).
Cheers Mike

Wow, 1/200 Hornet!! I had heard about this kit coming out, so, I guess its out since you have one. I'll definitely check out the two threads you mention. Thanks.
