Russell, Keith
Many thanks for your very kind comments. If I get her finished for the Barnet show in mid May I may giver her a try.
In answer to your question Russell, it is the Dragon / Cybermodeller USS Long Beach. I am bulding her to go along with the old Revell kit as a part of IPMS London's "Now and Then display for The 50th Aniversary Nationals for IPMS UK in November at Telford.

Onward with the rigging.
Foremast stays added.

Boat rigging being finished off.

Port side is done, and some trimming on the starboard side just needs trimming.
And finally.... trimmed painted, bits and pieces touvhed up
FINNISHED!!!!!!

All in all I have really enjoyed this build, the basic kit is straight forward with very few vices, but the use of the wood deck, brass masts and gun barrels , and WEM etch provided more than enough challenges to keep it interesting.

Thanks Julian,
It has been a number of firsts in the add ons I have used, but I am pleased with the result.
Thank you for your comments and support during the build.

Thank you, Russell, Guido, Tim,
Thank you very much for your support and comments during this build, it has been quite a journey.
I am pleased with the end result, a few flaws and a few things that could have gone better, but isn't that always the way.
I do like the wood deck, and will be using them again.
Thanks again Guys

Hello;
I just bought this model and one of the reasons was the watching of your great build. Very nice work. I was wondering what types of glue do you use for the PE and also what did you use for rigging. Right now I am build the revell of Germany SMS Emden and am really enjoying it.

Hi Bill,
Most of the etch is attached with Cyno Acrylate glue (Super Glue) the railings, especially the longer lengths were tacked in place with superglue, and then slightly watered white glue is run along the length, this seals any gap, and gives a strong and flexible join.
The rigging is copper wire, unravelled from old electrical cables and rolled straight with a steel rule. It is again attached with superglue. (glue the spot where it is going, not the wire.
Hope that helps.

Hi Bill,
I made them by cutting single square steps out of a spare length of vertical ladder and glueing them on one by one, have tried to enlarge the original pic a bit.

It is a bit tedious and fiddly, but the end result is worth it.
Hope that helps

Simon did you use the coaling scuttles from the WEM photoetch and if you did where do they go.

Hi Bill,
I have to admit I missed them, until after I had rigged her, and at that stage it was tricky to get them in.
Both the artworx deck and the kit has circles marked for them along the deck abeam of the funnels.
Hope that helps

Hi Bill,
I don't know for sure, but having seen the Aurora in St Petersburg, the Imperial Russian Navy's love of polished brass, wood & pristine neatness was second to none, (Hence I fitted the porthole etched surrounds and left them unpainted). My best guess is they would be white, like the rest of the deck fittings, unlikely Tsarist officers would put up with them painted black, when they had plenty of peasant sailors to keep them pristine shiny white.
Had I remembered them, I would have painted them white, and that would have been my argument, lacking any definitive answer to the question.

No worries Bill,
Just sorry I could not give a definitive answer.
