Gentlemen-
Come June 2013 the first MSW Build Contest will have started 5 years ago. I though it was one of the best contests I ever participated in!
How about seconds?
Anybody?

I have fond memories of the first MSW Community Build; I had just returned back to the hobby after a great many years. The Revell Bismark I won still has a place of honor in my stash

I would join another Community Build in any form

Hi, Sean!

Here's the link to the campaign guidelines:

MSW Contest

I thought it was great, great fun, even though it tied one down to a project for the better part of a year. This could be modified to a shorter term IMHO, though.
HOwever since there are only 2 responses to this proposal, it does not seem to attarct too many builders here.

Ayway, I would still be in to such a contest.

Cheers,
Guido

I second that. What was the challenge?

Cheers!
Stefan

PS: I'm pretty booked out at the moment, so I'd prefer a later start...

Only two problems for myself, I have never taken one year to build a model, especially an OOB one. But I might give it a try.. The Heller 1/100 Victory might take a while, even OOB.
and
I never buy newspapers etc so I would have to use another method to show the date the project was started.

If we do something like this again I think we might just have to do it for bragging rights.

I have no problem with us having another one.

@ Warren: Proving the starting point isn't difficult: You can take a photo of the unbuilt kit in front of the computer screen showing a recognizable picture of that day: I could be be a newspaper front page or any page that had been posted on that day here on MSW.
I think that a shorter term such as 4 to 6 months or maybe eight will be preferrable, too. However, if you take a big 1/350th battle ship and give it all your loving, I bet you can stretch into a year. If you are quick you can always run other builds in other campaigns on the side.
Check the build log of the old contest to see how others have been fairing.

@ Jim
I bet, if we have 3 or 4 months preparation time, it won't be too difficult to find sponsors. As well, most of us can sponsor some prices from the stash for added attraction.

I guess that it would be difficult to have any earlier starting date than the end of this or even the begiining of next year.

So far here are 6 modellers interested. To make it interesting we should try to attract at least 10 for each category, IMHO! So push your friends to join us. It might be nice for some modelers to try themselves in ship modeeling.

Possibly Guido, but the rules say it has to be OOB. Might need a few changes?

If you read closely, you'll find an "OOB" and a "Full build" category: The OOB strictly allows the use of everthing that is in the box, besides glues and paints. The "Full build" allows you to use everything from the latest PE and resin update to kitbashing. Even a full scratch-build would be OK.

Hello Guido,
Big Jim most likely has some stuff from manufactures, So I think we could get the prizes from him. If not I will put up 3 kits, a 1/350. a 1/700 and a 1/72 if you can get 10 or more to sign up.
Also it will have to start next year as we have d3 ending in june 31, Torpedo Boats will start up around that time for 8 months and Enterprise runs for a year ending December 31st.

With me in the Hospital for the next couple of months I can only juggle 3 campaigns right now, I am sorry.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hi, Bruce!

For you most important is to get back on your feet! Pushing a possible starting date is not a problem.
I guess, I'll put an invitation out on the other KM-Network pages to gain a bit of momentum.
Another change we could incorporate is to let all participants do the judging and in turn allow the staff to participate. Only one head judge would be acting as a neutral force.

Cheers,
Guido

Hello Warren,
You can be in the campaign. The Judges will be the Staff of MSW. I would like to be in the campaign also. It was a poorly worded sentence about the Judges, Sorry.
Cheers,
Bruce

I haven't built a target, oops, sorry, ship since the Ark Royal about 35 years ago, it was about 10 inches long from memory so I don't know the scale. Lately I've been looking at some of the kits in the LHS and seriously considering doing my first serious warship build, so count me in !

Cheers, Seaman Second Class D

I've never built a ship, but, have 3 destroyers in the stash looking for a reason to get out of the box.
You can mark me in for the OOB build, and I'll give it a honest try.

I have a number of projects already on the bench. I'm the type of fella that has to though, because I build on what I feel like any given day. And that changes routinely. I may not have dicipline, but, I always finish my projects, sooner or later.
