Now I look at it (and looked it up), and knowing the German propensity at the time for calling weapons by names that belied their actual purpose, this may be stretching things. But what the hell, as I said above, it says "torpedo boat"! It should be an interesting build. Looking forward to it.

Hi again Michael,
You just confirmed my original gut feeling; although
labeled torpedoboot, I felt the ship was a bit big and yes the
Germans did belie so that they could get around some of the
restrictions of the Versaille Treaty.
I would probably classify this one to be a Torpedo boat/Destroyer.
So on that note and having dug deeper into my stash, I have decided
to build the Revell S-100 Schnellboot in 1:72...less stain
on my eyes

Photos to come...
Cheers,

Some great looking builds going on.
I am ready to get going, two WEM 1/350th Dogs, MTB624

and MTB794

624 has 2 by 21" tubes 1 6 pdr mkV11, 1 twin 20mm mkV amd 2 twin 0.5" plus depth charges & 2 twin Vickers K
794 has 4 x 18" tubes 2 x 6 pdr mk VII , 1 twin 20mm mkI 2 twin 0.5" plus depth charges & 2 x twin Vickers K,
The hull castings take into account the difference in the torpedo and gun arrangements.

.
More soon.

Warren: That sure looks great so far! I have the kit but plan to do it OOB. It'll be interesting to see how your's comes together.
Si: Man White Ensign does great stuff! Looking forward to your builds, as usual.
The 109 goes slowly but well. Had some trouble getting the deck houses sealed to the deck all the way around and had to use some filler. If you're planning to build this kit, I might suggest gluing them down before you glue the deck to the hull, so you can deal with the seams inside and out. Pics later when life gives me some time!

Thanks Michael,
I am impressed with these kits, the only common parts are 1 6pdr and the etched brass, which because it covers all of WEM's Dog boats does have lots of left over goodies.
A bit of progress on the basics, I have found a base of about the right size to take both boats.

The hulls have been filled down close to waterline, and everything given a base coat of Tamiya AS16 light grey (USAF) which although quite a neutral grey in this scale on small craft makes quite a good base match for RN G45.

I have also sprayed the etched frets with the same base coat.

Bit more progress today, the cast on mountings for the tubes for 794 have been removed ready for the etched replacements, and the lower countershading painted.

Painting on the hulls has advanced, lower hulls black, the countershading white and Tamiya XF17 Sea blue on the deck of 794.
The etched mounts have also been added to the tubes of 794.

Thanks Warren,
They are great little kits, not short on work for their size,
Nice work on you "little" MTB, which as I have that in my stash will also be following closely.

Onwards and upwards.
more paint on 624, including starting the sharkmouth, the tubes have been added 794.

There is a fit issue with the access platforms for the twin 0.5", the recess needs to go further aft, otherwise they will not fit around the gun tubs, the part at the bottom of the picture has been modified, the orginal is above it still attached to the fret.

and fitted in place.

Simon great work and detail on the little boats way to small for me
Warren really sharp detail on your PE great work
Well started on the base for my PT boat by cutting out the hull shape and sculpting the insulation foam

I then set the boat into the foam with some clear silicone sealer when that was dry I then painted the sea base colour and added some cotton wool soaked in PVA glue to form the wake from the boat cutting through the water and then sealed the whole of the base with PVA in a thiker form

That all for now will hope to get the sea scape done at the weekend

That camo scheme is awesome Keith!
Simon, boats that small are difficult to paint well and you are doing a great job.
This arrived with the parcel lady yesterday..

But it must wait until my Vosper is finished..

I am off to the bench for some more PEing.
Have a great day
Regards
Warren

Great job on the camo Keith, really striking.
Thanks Warren, they are fun to paint, still need some tidying up here and there. Very tidy etch work on your MTB.
A bit of progress on 624, I have removed most of the resin TT mount, leaving just enough for the etched replacements to sit against so they are square.

In place with the sharkmouth done.

a bit of tidying up needed with the brush before I go any further, so some work on the foredeck of 794, all little bits an pieces, anchors, hatches, Holman rockets & fwd six pounder have been fitted. The foredeck railings are very fine & will bend out of shape if you look at them sideways, but got there in the end.

More soon,

Very nice work Keith! Congrats on finishing first!
Simon, there sure are a lot of parts for kits that small.
Warren, very good PE work! You can stick with it, you know you can.

Keith,
With the 167 you have already earned your ribbon, so as far as I'm concerned the Vosper is gravy. I know I'd love to see it and I'm betting everyone else would too, so bring it on!

First construction update of the dockside I have been adding texture to the dock walls by using a small burr tool in a mini drill and have started to fill in the blank space under the dock with building insulation foam.I then started on the water by cutting out the shape of the Vosper and have dry fitted to check on the fit so far.

Actually, torpedo boats were larger ships around destroyer size and operated with the fleet. The torpedo boat destroyer was invented as a counter to them, which was shortened to destroyer.
Hopefully someone will enlist with a Higgins boat. Whether it is books or models, the Higgins boat get less coverage. The only plastic one I know of is from Revell.

Hi Keith,
Nice work on PT 167, following with interest you dockside build and approach for making the water.
Hi Warren,
The Vosper is looking sharp and the PE Set looks excellent. Again following with interest.
Unfortunately my boats are still box bound as I am working on several WW1 projects at the moment.
Keep up the good work all and keep the updates coming..
Cheers
