Howdy Y'all
@Jeremy: Thanks for the extension. I was able to complete my tiny 1:700 SkyWave PT-Boat today.
@Bob: Keep up the work, we want to see this boat when it's finished.
Here's some pics. More in the Gallery. Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Excellent Don! Those kits can be a real challenge for sure. I tried working with a 1/700 escort vessel from Skywave that was cast in clear styrene, not the most enjoyable endeavor I've taken on.

Hey Michael, Working myself to death trying to get her through trials. Still having problems with Vosper. Seems they see fit to get her Majestys fleet done first. Something about keeping her and the admerails happy and suppied, so I got my own crew helping out. Just hard as heck to get them out of the Rogered Rabbit. LOL bob d.

Thank you, Don and Alan, for the nice comments!
Don, you are quite brave to go after a PT in 1/700! Great job! Years ago I tried building an IJN Kirishima in that scale and gave up! That's when I knew 1/350 was the smallest scale I could go.
Darrell, I really like your E-Boat! Does anyone know what the pedestal (in the circular area behind the bow mounted gun) was? Was it the original mount placement for the gun?
Bob, glad to see you're making a go of it! My best to you and yours!!
As far as my Higgins goes, it turns out the rain delay was a good thing! I haven't used my airbrush in a LONG time. I started to practice on scraps, but it wouldn't work. I quickly realized that the last time I had used it was before I had developed an "ex"! She had kept it as "hers" until I told my lawyer to have her demonstrate how to use it! She couldn't, obviously, so I got it back...several months later. Anyhow, upon inspection, I found some of her "Anger Issues" had struck yet again. Luckily, I had spare parts, so I dis-assembled my Badger, cleaned it up, and put it back together using the replacement parts. Voila! It worked!!
After practicing and letting the "after-storm" 65-70 mph Santa Ana Winds die down, I held my breath...prayed...and sprayed!
I'm now the proud owner of my FIRST green PT Boat!
I've been working on the smaller bit and pieces, doing touch-up painting as I go. I'll try to post more pics tomorrow or Sunday. I'm hoping to be finished by Tuesday at the latest.

Hey Daniel, Nice to see your progress on the Higgins. Just gotta love small naval craft, at least the green ones.
My Vosper build has stumbled, 2 weeks fighting depression and dealing with my prescription company has left me out of my meds and just worn me out. I probably wont get anywheres done in time, but the build does continue.
Alan, will try and get some pics up soon but my IT support is nursing a bad hangover, figures. Engine room is finished, just enough that when you look through the entry you will see the 2 motors with guages, ladder and some piping, and of course, a motor mac shouting up the access hatch.

Hi Javier,
Nice work.
Don,
Amazing little craft.
Hi Bob,
Look forward to developments. I never even got the box open. I've considered a internal build but I might never get it finished lol. Tempting though.

Hey Javier, now that is a fine job on such a small boat. I have enough problems scratch building small things for my dio's and vign. Smallest i did was an old fashion hand crank phone. 6 hours and going cross eyed was enough for me. My hat's off to you and your endevor so small.
Hey Alan, the engine room is done as far as I am concerned. Had to whip up a section of the rear engine but got lucky. The front has a plate with guages covering the most of it. When I placed the box, enginers desk, I saw too much empty space there and had to fill it up. Only a 1/2" shows but it's there. Motor nac is done but the major problem is that the ladder is attached to the enrty way and can't glue it in place without the deck on; then the motor mac has to be holding on it. Will figure this out as I go. As far as opening this boat, it was just the storage locker at the bow I started with. That lead to the engine compartment getting opened. I didn't get to join the campaign till the middle of it, bad move when you're waiting for parts. When you get around to yours with all the hatchs that can be open or closed, you will probably get the itch.
Though I am still trying to finish her up, I decided to just do the upper deck as it comes with a few small alterations. After the campaign is over I will add on the other things I wanted to do and then add her to the dio base. Good luck to all are trying to finish up. bob d.

Javier - Really nice job on the WEM Fairmile! That kit looks like it has some very fine detailing on it. I've thought about buying one before. Now, I just might have to!
Bob - Keep plugging away as much and whenever you can! You're fighting spirit is an inspiration. I hope your IT "gets better" soon, too! Would love to see more pictures.
As for my Higgins, I'm "almost" finished with her. I keep finding new things to add. My kids think I've lost my mind. My migraines are telling me that the kids are RIGHT!!
I'll post updated pics as soon as I can. I just need to make a 20mm and 37mm canon, set the "rope coils" on deck, check for necessary touch-ups, AND WALK AWAY from this thing!
Best wishes,
Daniel

OK,
I'm calling it on my Higgins. I'm planning on putting her in a seascape later, so no rudder or props are on her. If needed, I can scratch a quick ocean base tonight.
This was actually the 2nd "quickest" build for me! Only building the USS Monitor (ISW 1/350) was faster.
The kit would have been pretty straight-forward as an OOB build, but I wanted to see what mods I could make before I went totally nuts!
I ended up with approximately 112 mods and additions...on a 2" model???
Thank you to everyone, especially Michael Satin. I learned a lot and was able to get back "into it" all while having fun!
Best wishes to all,
Daniel

Hey Daniel, I had to get my ruler out for this one. The pic's come out to be 6" on my screen, and the 2" goes from bow to just back of the bridge. I keep rolling it through my mind, 2", 2 freaking inch's. Yes, your daughters are right and your migrains prove it, you are positively nuts. I'm already nuts and just driving myself insane with something that small anymore, aint gonna do it, aint healthy, and I aint gonna do it. LOL. All I can say at this point is you did one hell of a job on within 2". Congrates to you.
Hey Michael, you are right on your statements. But I wonder after so many problems with this kit, where did the fun go to? Maybe the crew I hired tossed it overboard and are laughing behind my back. At least I am ready to glue the wheel house and bridge together and call that step done. Moving along...

Hi Bob - I mis-spoke slightly about the 2"... The Higgins actually measures out to 2.67"!
That is definitely the smallest I've worked on...so far! I now have moved the USCGC Flagstaff and, for Michael's "Enterprise" Campaign, the Continental Army Sloop Enterprise to the builder's dock. The USS Flagstaff (PGH-1) was a hydrofoil that was loaned to the USCG for trials. I'm building her for the "Race Mania" Campaign. She measure out to slightly less than the Higgins, at about 2.5".
The Continental Army Sloop Enterprise will be completely scratch-built. I've never tried it, so I'm keeping my "Deal with Reality" filters set to HIGH. She will measure out to about 1.6" on deck. I've drawn up "plans" to use, but they're pretty thin. There's not much in the way of information on this boat. But, I thought it would be fun and fairly easy. We'll see how THAT goes this week!
More importantly, Life has a path of its' own choosing. I know. I've found this out the hard way many times over the last few years. There are things that are seemingly in our control. Take advantage of those to make a better Life for you and yours! The things that are out of our control...are out of our control. I learned to stop fighting those things and let them pass, as much as possible. That's hard when you're raised in a family of stubborn, fight-for-every-inch, Never Give Up The Ship toughies (that was my MOM'S attitude...and she was the "easy-going" parent!!)
Even though the Campaign is closing, please keep plugging away at your build. Do these build blogs continue even after the campaign is wrapped up? If so, I'd love to follow your progress as you finish her up! I'll check in every so often to keep an eye out for you and offer any kind of encouragement I can. After all, that's one of the purposes of this site, isn't it?
Lastly, for Michael or anyone with "know-how", I can't seem to be able to put any pics into the Official Campaign Gallery. Is there a "trick" I'm missing? I'd like to be able to officially "call" this campaign!
Thanks to all!
Daniel

Daniel, Alan, Bob et al: Many thanks for your nice words. Reaaly as a "vedette" she looks better in photos! The detail level Wen introduces in their models is amazing, but working with the photoetch is not for the faint of heart. Only to say that when taking today pics I managed to bend the stern guard rails only by skimming it with a finger
I know the pedestals are a bit (Only a bit?) way forward, but I needed to mask a burst bubble where the nearest to the bow is.
I uploaded better pics on the gallery, and there you have another one so you can see the niceties of the photoetch ( I don't dare to add rigging or even a flag , so fragile the mast is...)
Daniel: a masterwork that PT of yours... And truly agree about your statement regarding Life's path!

Daniel,
Very nice stuff indeed.
Right, posting in the gallery. First off, make sure you're logged in. Even if you're always logged in to KitMaker sometimes the galleries require you to login again. The login link is in the upper right hand corner.
Once you're logged in the system might bounce you to the main gallery contents page. Our gallery is under "Campaigns", "2013 Campaigns" "! Official MSW Campaign: MTB". (Or you can try the link above again, I think once you've logged in it'll keep you logged in for a few days.)
When you're at the correct gallery and logged it, you'll see a link to "upload photos" in the upper right corner. Click on that and it should be relatively self-explanatory. If you are used to posting photos using an online depository such as Photobucket, this is different; the photos for the gallery have to come directly from your computer.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions!
Michael

Hey Michael, yup, it's quiting time on my run for the finish. Problems with the depth charge racks now. They ended up too long and I have to shorten them. As is, the D.C.'s wont fit properly. they sit off the run tracks on each side. Oh well, one thing or another, what can you do but fix the problems up and plug away with her. Though the campaign is over, I will keep going with the build. Heck, no room on the bench till she launchs finaly. It was a good campaign all the way, had a good time and met some nice people here. Lots of shared info and laughs too. As I stated, I'll continue with the stuborn thing as the dio has to be finished and it's the lead part. Will get to posting soon either here or on a build blog. Congrate to all who finished and those who almost made it. There are just some real nice builds here and the small stuff is amazing. bob d.

These things happen Bob, it's better to build her right than to rush her. Keep us up to date (with photos!) as you find time to continue your build.
A very nice finish here with quality builds across all scales, wouldn't you say Michael? Bruce will be pleased I'm sure
