Si,

She is looking good. I have never built a Bronco kit. How good do you rate their quality?

There was a show a couple hours away from me yesterday that I was going to go to but alas things got in the way. Hope you and Luciano enjoy the show

Coming along nicely Si

Something different from the usual 'grey'...

Makes me think about cracking open the Titanic from the stash just to get something with colours on!

Hi Dave,

Must say I like Bronco Kits, have built two other ships, the Ting Yuen and the USS Conarado (LCS 4), and enjoyed them both, moulding is clean, detail and fit is good, and they look right (I am not a rivet counter, I like to get the fit and colours as close as I can but I don't take a micrometer to the parts)The etch is pretty complete and usable, I would say they are better detailed than Trumpeter but not as over engineered as dragon, a happy medium. Have also built a couple of vehicles & figures as well and they are good.

looking forward to the show, any meeting Luciano, and any UK crewmates who are there.

Thanks Russ, I am enjoying a bit of colour, which is also why I picked the 1888 scheme not the more dull 1894 one.

Cheers

Si

Thanks Guys,

It is just keeping a few projects on the go so I don't waste any of the time that I get in the workshop waiting for glue or paint to try.

Appreciate you looking in and your kind words

Looks good Si. I am building her sister ship Chih Yuen. I like the Bronco kits as well, except the plastic is too soft. I messed up on painting the deck. When I stripped the deck, using Testor's thinner, it buggered up the "planking", so I went with wood decks as well. On the Chih Yuen the main and secondary gun mounts were very fiddly. I mounted the carriage first, casemate second, then the gun.

Hi Simon,
May be you could give a brief description on how you manage the multiple process. I find once I start a build I bits all over the desk. Do you work out trays, separate desks (that'd be a luxury!) Just interested to know.
cheers

Thanks Bushman, Appreciate the comments, and the note on building the guns.

Hi Dave,

I try to keep all the sprues, frets and little bags of bits in their respective boxes when I am not working on that particular project, prefer top opening boxes for this, as I can leave the lid off and just pick stuff out and put it back as needed. Not always 100% organised, and do have odd sprue hunts, sub assemblies tend to sit in small plastic fast food trays (dishwashered of course) on the side table by my bench (which is a very untidy mess, as I am not the tidiest person on the planet by any stretch of the imagination.

Sort of works and I don't perminantly loose things too often.

Here goes, yesterday's update.

I am not sure what to call this bit, but one goes on either side of the conning tower. the grey bit of plastic is the template to get the bend right.

And fitted along with some more fo'c's'le details, mooring bits, capstan etc.

The funnel casing test fitted, the glue on the boat rack is still wet, whilst the dry in position.

.

Boat rack painted, guns fitted and the whole thing glued down.

Si, it was nice to meet at last and see your creations first hand including this one. I'm sure now we know what each other looks like that we'll see each other at more shows.

Si,

She is looking good. As others have said before the white really looks good and makes everything pop out.

Watching your build is definitely influencing me to try an pre-WWII ship.

Cheers Dave,

She really is a nice change of pace and colour scheme. I agree, makes a nice change from all the grey, and with the yellow masts, funnels and vents she will be even more colourful.

It's only fair, your Maya influenced me into buying a Japanese heavy cruiser.
