Hi Russell,

It is some firepower for something smaller than a WW2 destroyer, to be honest I do wonder a bit if those guns were more danger to those firing them than those being fired at by them.

On with the after conning position, the binnacle and guard rails in position.

The is an odd A frame that goes for'd and aft og the after conning position, what it is for I have no idea, bit it looks interesting

The funnel in place,

And the masts in place.

More soon,

Si

Small update,

Working from forward to aft details being fitted,

The casemate guns and gunport doors in place.

The anchors assembled, I had some left over cable from the Pontos Duke of York.

This photo shows a few things that aren't rignt. I broke the jackstaff cleaning it up,and it looked straight to the mark 1 eyball, but not so, one of the Davits is out of line. and some touch up on the paintwork on the hull needs doing.

next pic should show that lot straightened out.

Another great update, Si.

Maybe those braces fore and aft of the rear con are to protect the command crew from any wayward movement of the gun, taking a swipe at them

Si,

Great update. She is coming along nicely. It is amazing to see how warships have developed over time. Especially in the area of crew protection. The Ching Yuen just seems so exposed.

Hi Russ,

Thanks mate, you could be right, if there were a Derrick boon off the mainmast I could see it as a rest, not the right shape for an awning, unless it was rigged underneath it.

Hi Dave,

Thankyou, I agree it is exposed, but I suppose it has to be, all the fire control ands ship handling relied on the Mk1 eyeball, no sitting in armoured DCT's. there is what I would presume to be an armoured position under the forebridge, but what you can see from under there I do not know.

Wow Si,

just catching up here and with your other builds - how many are you performing at a time this time??? And at what speed and quality at the same time?? Just amazing!!

And your Ching Yuen is really coming along nicely, very interesting subject! Great work!

Cheers,

Jan

Hi Jan,

I have four on the go at the moment. (usual number) that means I don't waste any time in the workshop waiting for paint or glue to dry.

Only really get into the workshop at weekends, so time has to be productive.

Thank you for your kind words and support, always appreciated.

Si

A bit more progress,

The dragons on the bow and stern need painting gold. I like citadel metallic, the base coat of "Belthazar gold"

And a highlight coat of Auric armour gold.

Fitting the rest of the foredeck railings, again multiple bends, I cut the last section off to ease the fit.

All on, the bend around the gun position was tricky as there are no stations at the base of the curve.

For the port side I tried cutting the section in three.

This went on easier.

And with the guns in place as well.

Moe soon.

Si

Onwards.

The poop deck railings on.

small guns for the maindeck and poop with the etched shields on

Guns being fitted, one of the smaller after pair pinged. I will see what I have left to fit when I have all the other guns on, shields can be made from thin plasticard, unless of course I can find suitable spares on a left over fret,

Ratlines on fore and main masts.

Getting the guns and davits in the fighting tops.

Oh and the missing railings around the funnel casings.

The davits and boats being prepped.

The davits, to get the fine mouldings, have lots of mould stubs. The right hand sprue is untouched, and the left hand cleaned up.

Both the davit and the boat sprues have had citadel "skull white" shot at them. I know they will need a touch up, but the great thing about citadel paints is the pots match the rattlecans perfectly, in sheen and colour, so no weat.

Cheers.

Looking great Si!!

You're modeling faster than I can watch and comment

Still these colorful builds of yours are really fun to watch! I don't know if that was discussed earlier - what exactly are those 'citadel' paints? They aren't originally intended for us shipwrights, are they??

Cheers

Hi Jan,

And I am off work for the next two weeks, so plenty of work bench time!.

The Citadel paints are really aimed at Fantasy wargamers, and sold through Games Workshop, (My son is into that, which is how I discovered them) They are acrylic, a small range of rattlecans and a large range of colours in pots. I like them because of the covering power, especially the lighter, brighter colours and metalics. Their range of metalics quite extensive as well, handy for larger scale MTB's and subs etc.

Cheers Dave, Yup, quite a lot of little stuff, then looks like I am heading into a rigging fest with this puppy and the Jupiter.

You continue to amaze me Si, with the number of builds you are able to manage, and the speed at which you turn them out!

Thanks Russ,

I think I get more done by working 4 or 5 things at once, that way every minute at the bench is productive, just seems like I am quick.

This is a great little kit, and as I have a couple of weeks off, & Mrs Duster is at work, and young Duster at school taking his GSCE's will be a really productive time.

Cheers mate.

Small update on this build, bigger ones on the other three I have going.

The stern casemate guns and their doors fitted, one did ping off, but has been replaced by plastic strip.

Started the rigging, funnel stays fitted along with halyards and stays on the foremast.

and painted, the funnel stays I assume would be wire rope, so the were painted a steel colour, the stays on the foremast would be ordinary rope, and therefore tarred, so they were painted black, and the halyards a very light tan, again citadel paints were used, pots are shown.

More soon.

Hehe, I could only dream of what I could get done in a couple of weeks, mate. Between work, the kids, and all the other things needing attention, I'm lucky to get an hour a day... Hence my extraordinarily slow progress on builds

Those aft guns look pretty menacing... Wonder why they're on the aft not the bow..? Maybe they were expecting to be chased a lot?

Hi Russ,

Feel your pain mate, when my son was younger I went through that. He 16 now, and at boarding school, and pretty self sufficient when he is at home, doesn't mind the old man too much, but prefers to be doing his own thing a lot of the time, and that is how it should be.

Don't often get time off when the rest of the family are at work / school, so I am making the most of it.

For her size that little cruiser has guns all over the place, (she also has a pair of guns in casemates forward as well.) There were designed By Armstrong's up on the Tyne as an export model, (too short ranged and under armoured for the RN) so I suppose the sales pitch was along the lines of:- "very compact, good turn of speed 0-15kts in abt 30 mins) lots of guns comes as standard, oh and we'll throw in a full bunker of coal!"

Looking really smart Si, and again, your colorful build really make for a change in our world of grey (not that I don't like grey, but.... )

Very nice work!

Thanks Jan,

It is nice to chuck a bit of colour around, and these late 19th century oddballs are interesting to build.

Another very nice build. Another kit that should really stand out on modelers shelves.

I also envy your output. I've tried building multiple kits at once and it was a disaster.
