Thanks Rodger,

She is a striking little ship,

As I tend to get my work bench time in one longer session a week, rather than odd half hours doing more than one thing at once means I always have something else to work on whilst paint or glue is drying.

The only trick is don't build two similar subjects by the same manufacturer.

Cheers

Small update today,

been concentrating on getting the Jupiter.

The foremast rigging completed.

Just needs a lick of paint and when I get the mainmast done, then a break from rigging for a while.

More rigging,

Started on the mainmast.

A bit rigginged out so moved on to the boats, a wash was added to the bottom boards to bring out the detail, would be dry brushed before use.

The required boats assembled.

Oars are provided on the etched fret, but only a total of 24, great for the jolly boat on the stern davits, but not enough for all the other boats, must do some digging to top this lot up.

Hi Simon
Very nice build, you're a true master class builder. I only have one small question, though; how come you use a all Black color on your builds, and not a toned Down Black , like Tamiyas Nato Black?, I think this (Chaos Black?) looks a bit too clean.

Cheers Russel,

She is coming on.

Hi Jacob,

When I build waterline, on a base and weather I do use a toned down black, however when I build full hull, I go for the pristine "Builders Model" look, in that case I like the contrast of a purer black.

Thanks for looking in.

Cheers

Thanks Jan,

The kit itself is a little gem.

The rigging painted.

Dug this, now sadly missed, but very useful set out of the stash.

The big cutter will now have ten oars, most likely number although it could be rowed with twelve. I have left then attached to each other as this will give them the look of a bundle.

fitted to the boat, they look a better size than the kit provided oars.

The cutter and the steam pinnace in place.

Cheers.

Another small update.

Parts for the cutter's davits prepped.

and fitted,

should have left the braces off the foremast yard until after the davits were on.

And this one looks pretty close to commissioning!! Looks great!

A little further up, your oars - great idea, Si!! Simple but effective, I'll copy that! Somehow I always started with taking all the individual oars from the fret, some already bent from that, some lost underway or while painting. Some more bent during painting... Now that's neat and on top really looks good!!

Cheers ,

Thanks Jan,

From my own seagoing experience, oars in ships boats were always lashed in two bundles, one on each side in a seamanlike fashion. Purely by luck (and laziness) I found a simple and effective way of replicating it.

Cheers mate, hope you are having fun in Monterey.

With a lot of fragile parts hanging from the sides of the hull, time to prep the base otherwise it is going to tricky to pick the model up without breaking something.

The kit base test fitted together.

and the ship placed on to make sure all lines up.

all glued together and base coated

the pedestals will be picked out in an antique brass colour.

Thanks Todd,

The she is getting there, but the base was getting overdue, gives me a safe handling point for the stern and stbd side davits, and the remaining boats when fitted,

Cheers.

Thanks Guys,

I will be using the citadel metallic paints put on with the old hairy stick for pedestals, quite a bit of wash and dry brushing will go on, good job they dry quick,

Cheers

The pedestals, first coat is Balthazar Gold.

Drybrushed with Auric Armour Gold.

Washed with Reikland Fleshshade, a wash was also applied to the brass nameplate.

The ship mounted on the on her base.

The Kit oars are about right for the small jolly boat hanging off the stern davits. Unfortunately I cannot use my usual cut them off in one and roll them up.

The kit oars fitted in a more seamanlike fashion that as per the instructions.

The stern davits fitted, along with the kit rigging and the ensign staff.

And the jolly boat hung from them.

And fully rigged.

Cheers

Si

"hung by the davits" sounds really sinister, Si

great work on this one too.

Love the finish on the pedestals.

Hi Russ,

Certainly make your eyes water mate,

I know I harp on about citadel paints but their metallic are really friendly, even with the good old hairy stick.

Hi Todd,

Thanks mate, I do like the way the base turned out, and I can pick her up with out risk to rigging and boats.

Cheers.

Si
