After the 10 month "slog" (a very enjoyable slog it was too) of the Duke over on the mighty battleship campaign I felt it was time for something smaller, simpler and different.

The contents of the box, and the artworx deck. the etch is pretty complete, this is my third bronco ship, and apart from wood deck doesn't need anything else.

The hull together, good fit, the rudder can be fitted to be movable, I have fixed it, but it seemed good to fix it as per the instructions.

The maindeck has to be fitted as the hull is joined.

The prop shafts fitted, and a few small other small parts, read for primer / anti fouling.

Sprayed with Halfords red plastic primer.

More soon.

Cheers Luciano,

They are nice kits, I have built the Ting Yuan, one of the battleships from the same era went together really well.

Nice Photo Biggles.

Cheers Todd, Russ & Dave nice to have you along, felt a change of pace would be good after the Duke.

Cheer Tim, if it goes together a well as the other Bronco ships I have built won't be a big wait.

Hi Michael,

It does, very complete as well, only added a deck the etch is fairly comprehensive, will no doubt find soe stuff out of the spares box to add.

Hi Jan,

Always nice to do soothing different now and again, and it will be the 1888 scheme, which is more colourful.

Onwards and upwards.

the lower hull has been masked ready for a coat of citadel chaos black.

job done.

Now the tricky masking job, masking off the black. There are lots of lumps and bumps to deal with.

The midships gun mounts being masked using what I call the "grass skirt" method. cut a strip of masking tape so it looks like below.

then just press the "fronds" down.

The hull masked and ready, along with the fo'c's'le and poop decks, etch and a couple of the bits for a coat of skull white. No I am not mad, well not totally, this does work, the citadel rattle cans do cover that well.

and here's the proof.

The masking off, not perfect, but pretty good.

All the waste bits removed from the Artworx maindeck section, ready to go on.

and in place.

That's all for now.

Wow Si,

So fast, good work on an interesting subject. That skull white has a lot of depth.

Thanks Todd,

The joy of acrylics, I can get more than one colour down in a day.

Welcome Dave,

I like a change from forty odd shades of grey now and again, and these late nineteenth centaury ships are a bit quirky.

Cheers Bryan,

This is bit of the build that appears to make a lot of progress very quickly. It's the only paint I would try that with, Young Duster being into Warhammer / Citadel stuff, I discovered citadel paints through him, their base coats are designed to cover anything.

Cheers Michael, as I said above it is down to the paint, being able to work the paiting in that order made the masking a lot easier.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Definitely a good change of pace. I have this one in the stash as well.

Looking good so far.

I have been using acrylics for years and it is very handy to be able to spray or brush multiple coats in one day no problem. But I hardly ever use rattle cans as they are way too expensive and there is very little control over the amount of paint you apply.

Keep at it Simon.

Cheers

Hi Warren,

Thanks for looking in. Change of pace is good now and again.

Rattlecans are like anything else, just a matter of practice also I have found, particularly Citadel and Tamiya very forgiving.

I will admit it is laziness as well when it comes to all the time spent mixing paint, setting and cleaning up the windy stick, when I can get a rattle can that matches the colour I need.

Cheers

Thanks Jan,

I have to admit that was tricky, and not my favourite part of the build, but pleased with the resul.

Cheers.

A bit more progress, basically getting everything ready so I can take this baby to Southern Expo next weekend and make some progress sat on the London Modellers stand.

Fo'c's'le and poop decks on.

And the wood deck overlays fitted,

Some parts prepped on the sprue.

Will try post some updates over next weekend, and some pics of ship models at expo.

Hi Luciano,

Will be good to meet you, might have one or two builds on the stand you have seen before.

Thanks Todd,

Still a couple of small bits of wood to go, haven't been to a show for a while really looking forward to this one.
