This has been mooted on the "Mighty Battleship" Campaign, as that comes to an end in a couple of months, I thought it was time to float the idea.
I am thinking 1860's to the present day, including Battlecruisers and Auxiliary cruisers. Thinking starting later in the year and running for 12 months.
Any comments / ideas?
Si

Count me in. I still have the IJN Chokai in the stash so if I can't find and acquire something different I'll pick that.

I'll be in and later in the year gives me time to get a detail set for either the Belfast or Tone.
If I can get enough support I'll try and have the 'We were also there' campaign start after Leyte Gulf and the WWI Big guns start next year on the dawn of Jutland.

I've got a couple of cruisers in the stash so I'd be up for building one.

Yes, I will be up for that!. I should be over my current cruiser pain for the Battle of Atlantic campaign

Hipper is def in as he (he for German ships) was a heavy cruiser, Scharnhorst on the other hand is more difficult as officially it's a battleship however most now see it as a battlecruiser so that would be for Si to call as the leader.

Thanks for the response. The Hipper will work as it's on my wish list. So is the Prinz Eugen

Thanks for the excellent response guys,
To answer the questions asked so far:-
Started Models I would say yes, if no more than say 25% done, some cruisers especially in 1/350th are quite complex, so would still leave a lot to for the campaign.
I would allow the Scharnhorst / Gneisenau, as although the Navy the belonged referred to them as battleships, they were the classic German take on the Battlecruiser main armament at least partially sacrificed for armour.

Thanks for the answers. Leaves me with some options since I want to do something different than another IJN cruiser
Thanks

Would a Varyag qualify in this campaign? This one?

This could be the first campaign for me - I was planning on a cruiser next after the Repulse is finished hopefully in the nearer future

I was thinking about Belfast 1/350 with some aftermarket, with your flexibility on started kits, that would allow me to start whenever Repulse is commissioned and possibly get some headway to compensate for my slow building speed looking forward to the campaign!!
 looking forward to the campaign!!
As for Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, happy that you admit them because it's always nice seeing one of them being build, but as a German I have obviously to object against the 'Battlecruiser' classification The 11" main artillery was due to political limitations at the time of their construction, and the armor was extensive
The 11" main artillery was due to political limitations at the time of their construction, and the armor was extensive - but leave the nitpicking aside, very happy with your decision to let them in!!

Cruisers,
I need some help, I have been reviewing the options for modern cruiser for this campaign. Ticonderoga and Slava class are not attractive to me, Kirov is overwhelming and deserves a place in the battleship campaign (not to mention the Trumpeter kit is a train wreck) and I am stuck.
Anybody know of an interesting 1/350 cruiser kit/subject post WWII, I'd really like to join the campaign with you all.
Thanks,
Bryan

Hi Joseph,
Yes the Varyag would certainly qualify. Great kit, really enjoyed building myself.
Hi Jan,
Thank you for your understanding, I felt it was only fair as no one put them up in the Battleship Campaign, and also Scharnhorst is on my to do list so under consideration as my build.
Hi Bryan,
Kirov class would be goers for this campaign, anything USN whose pennant Number begins with A "C", RN really only had the Lion Class, and few good kits of those.

Just one Si: how do you know if you've progressed 25%?

Later in the year would be good if I could enter the Prinz that I've already started???

Very good question Russ,
maybe that is the wrong criteria.
Let me think on that, because with a ship it can look nearly finished and still be less than 25% done time wise.
The devil is in the detail, and as there is potential for some large and complex builds, I want to be fair to the slower / time poor builders.
Any suggestions from your side, or anybody for that matter.

Hi Simon,
I think the more campaigners the better. I just like reading the blogs and seeing the ships develop. It doesn't matter too much to me where they start as long as we get to enjoy the rest of it.
cheers
Michael

I might join with the Academy Indianapolis but I need some help, a question if I may:
1. would you buy the premuim kit and be done with all the AM stuff or buy the standard kit and an upgrade PE/wood deck kit? Which one? Why?
Thanks in advance
Bryan

I'm with Michael, Si.
I think it would encourage more people to join the campaign, if there was no restrictions on what stage people were at with their builds.
They're doing that now over on aeroscale and it seems to be upping the participant numbers, which like Micheal said, makes the campaign that much more enjoyable.

Si, i'm sure I have a IJN ship or two in the stash that would meet this requirement, possibly Tone. If not count me in and i'll smuggle something suitable inti the house.

Bryan, I have the premium kit with the I-58, the premium kit gives you the Pontos upgrade set and wood deck for a saving over buying it separately.
