I think you are going to love the Infini Upgrade kit. The turned brass options alone make it work the cost.

I am almost done with the Akigumo.

Wow! that is a lot of brass for ship that size. Will have to follow this build for some pointers on handling such small P.E. and parts.

I have Tamiya chikuma with eduard etch. Love Tamiya engineering and wish they would get on the ball with an up to date US heavy cruiser or some ww 2 American destroyers

I do like the turned brass, it does make a real difference with the cable reels, depth charges and the like.

The best starting point for handing small etch is a really good pair of needle nosed tweezers, not cheap but far less tendency for the points to slip and ping parts across the room.

Agree with you there, these kits stand up to most of what is around today, but it would be nice to see the kind of love they put into their recent aircraft releases applied to some more ships.

The keel laying, well the nuts that allow the ship to be screwed and unscrewed from the base.

The bulkheads in place, (It have an issue with fat fingers and the midships bulkhead but they are designed be easily trimmed at the waterline for that option.



Not a problem though, fitted back in place with upper hull halves. One clever thing, the joint at the bow is slightly offset on the port side.

usual excellent Tamiya fit, although I must say, their quick drying extra thin cement did come in handy as the upper hull halves were very flexible until secured.

I count myself fortunate that my own wife is so patient with my modeling excesses...

At least you actually seem to get yours built!

I am happy to have a good Mrs that puts up with my excesses too. She allows ample time at the bench and while the purchasing of kits has to get presidential approval she doesn't mind new supplies. I just bounce between kits alot to always have something fresh. That's what really annoys her.

Hi Norman,

Know what you mean about "Presidential approval", but I do get a few kits for Christmas / Birthday, although these tend to be on short lead time for going into the yard for obvious reasons.

There may have to be a potential cull, (not of the 1/350 stuff, I hope) as we are looking at turning the garage into a new workshop for me and a utility room, and there are fair few 1/700th ships, 1/48th wingy thingies etc still boxed and in the junk space that the garage currently is.

Quick update,

Shafts and rudder on, the metal shafts could be left off, until after spraying, but there is nothing to stop them sliding into the hull.
