Today's progress.

The lower bridge sections.

Prior to removing the detail as per the Pontos instructions.

After.

I decided to have one of the W/T doors into the superstructure open, slight issue, the frame for that side ping into an alternative universe. Quick bit of scratchbuilding problem solved.

Brass cladding on the upper front section.

Sone cladding is provided for the rear section, but somehow it fouled the gangways. The hatches were fitted directly on to the plastic.

The view through the open door.

I might do the same for the after superstructure.

Cheers

Si

Hi Russ,

The Base kit is pretty good, would look great straight out of the box.

I like to open doors, where it adds depth, and opens up a different view on the ship.

Quite a few Resin Pre-dreads in 1/350 scale have the superstructure, including the area under the gangways cast as solid blocks. I have the Combrig HMS Tiger sat on the shelf of shame, because I have build up the courage to disassemble the superstructure and scratchbuild the lower section of the bridge structure because it is a solid lump, in the kit, but was not on the real ship.

Thanks for looking in.

Cheers

Si

Si,

Those doors look great, what detail. I see you added PE portholes and rain gutters on the superstructure. Are you going to do that with all of the superstructure portholes?

Thanks Mark,

Will be doing that, except for the on the midship's doors on the external bulkheads. Doors tend to have gutters above the door.

Actually have done on the Forward superstructure this afternoon. will post an update in due course.

Last Sunday's progress.

more detail going on.

a couple of rigging attachment points straight off the sprue.

etched parts replacing the loops at the top & fitted.

Parts for lower bridge deck, forward conning tower plus some vents and what I would assume are flag lockers.

The brass deck fitted.

Lesson learned here, the fit the deck first, it is tight, and I did knock a couple of etched parts off, but fortunately they were found and refitted.

Sprayed, the deck areas painted linoleum brown with the old hairy stick and the conning tower and other fittings fitted.

Detail painting on the watertight doors.

Fitted down.

After lower bridge, detail removed and deck fitted.

The open door drilled and being cut out.

Ready for the frame.

The frame in place, and test fitted.

More soon, and I hope posted more timely.

Cheers

Si

Si,

I would say that is a lot of progress for a Sunday. That superstructure is looking wonderful, much detail.

Thanks Mark,

One of those days, I got in the zone with this one, apart from the etch deck parts everything was a great fit, and they were only a touch out.

Great work so far, Si. Those wood decks look their best in these larger scales!

Thanks Tim,

You have the right of it there, I am hoping I can find one the 1/144th Chinese cruiser, that deck will be "fun" to paint.

Little bit of progress Friday & Saturday.

Open door frame and closed door in place, along with the etched cladding.

Structure fitted underneath the overhang, along with the porthole surrounds.

The large rigging attachment points with the etched detail fitted.

Fitted in place, along with the structure on bulkheads.

Not as much progress as I would like, but I have been slightly distracted by a recent Tamiya release with wings, fantastic piece of plastic engineering.

More soon.

Cheers

If you include the distraction I didn't do too badly, The Pontos is generally so good, folds and fits well. I might give another clue with the Sunday / Update, but I might not get that posted till Tuesday.

Thanks Mark,

The PE is mostly very good, and easy to handle, all the folds are nice and clearly half etched.

The kit was on the importer's stand at Telford, and we were allowed to fondle the sprues.

The naysayers were moaning that "we don't need another one of these, and why haven't they done something different as they have already done one". Not usual wingy territory, but I thought "yes we do, and this is the one!"

Sunday /Monday's progress.

More etched detail going on.

The after derrick and open doors fitted.

painted, after conning tower and vests fitted, a bit of detail painting done too.

The last vent boxes fitted on the foredeck.

first sections of railing down, rear of the forebridge.

Getting the four long ladders bent to shape, three shown.

First pair down.

The four short ladders that fit from the bridge decks down to the gangways.

all the ladders in place.

Before fitting the ladders I test fitted the first section of etched boat rack in place.

slight problem, so I went with the kit parts.

These need a little fettling too.

I don't think both the etch and the kit can be wrong, must have something slightly out of alignment. doesn't show looking at the model.

This is what has been distracting me slightly.

More soon.

Cheers

Si

Got it in one Russ.
My aviation interests tend to Maritime related, but this was such a great kit I couldn't resist it, and it includes markings for an aircraft that covered the Dunkirk evacuation there is a maritime link.
