Work started on the funnels.
One weak point of the kit is the funnel tops.
A bit off centre, but fixed.
basic funnel assembly, test fitted to the base.
Both funnels test fitted in place.
Next jobs, sanding the raised details off the funnels and adding the etch, also building up the detail on the funnel bases.
More soon.

I've been following your build here with much admiration- the larger scale seem to suit you . Do you only model warships? I ask because I am curious as to whether there may be a Trumpeter 1/200 Titanic in your future ?

Thanks for looking in. I am enjoying this scale, there is a depth and a level of detail I cannot match in 1/350th.
There could be a /200th Titanic somewhere in my future, I would love to see more Merchant vessel in 1/200th, post war Liberty or Empire would be great, or wartime tankers like the Ohio or San Demetrio, Won't happen though.

More on the funnels,
Rigging attachment points made from plastic strip and attached to the funnel bases.
Moulded detail removed from the funnels.
The etched rivet details and funnel caps on the frets.
Funnel caps built.
Fitting the rivet detail.
Done, and the caps on.
The funnels sprayed black, and the bases off white.
Next job, funnels glossed decaled and matted. they will then need rigging points made up and attached before fitting.

Agree Rus,
But then again had they, issues with short moulding, or mould tags on each pipe to clean up.
Drilling them out was a simple task, to be honest even more surprised that Pontos did not supply the parts, as the do for the external pipes on theBismarck's funnel in this scale.

Finally managed to clear some space in the old workshop to do a bit, mostly tidying up the funnel sub assemblies.
The fwd funnel, with the platform and steam pipes fitted.
And the After funnel.
Both funnels fitted down.
What appears to be steam whistles added to the platform, whistles painted brass, which I would assume to be correct for the period.
The ladders added to the fore-funnel, platform & base.
A quick overview.
The next job, scratchbuilding 24 turnbuckles for funnel stays. That will be quite "fun".

Si, You can have fun scratchbuilding them, but North Star Models produces a set of etch turnbuckles in 1/350 that look pretty good.
I used them on my 1/230 scale Olympia, thought they worked well.
