Again nice progress. How did you mount the railings? Are there holes for the posts? At 350 scale I have a dickens of a time getting those posts to attach because of the tiny surface area. It becomes a real pain to mark and drill holes.

Hi Mark,
They have small feet which are bent up to give ta bit more area to stick down.
How these will be replaced with the kit railings, as they are not long enough to go round the shielded 3" guns on the gangway ends. (When I can find that particular fret, which I have put in a very safe place, that safe I cannot remember whre it is

The quality of the kit and the aftermarket help. Still quite a way to go, and some of that will be dealing with the big differences between the 1902 & 1905 fits, which will involve adapting some of the Pontos parts.

Finally found the missing fret with the railings for the Gangway, so onwards & upwards.
The fret sprayed, well at least the two parts I need.
Fitted in place.
Basic assembly of one of the Pontos " guns, next to the Kit etched gun shield.
Test fitting the gun shields, Pontos & kit 3" gun.
Unfortunately the Pontos parts don't work well with the kit shields, a major rework would be needed. I did try fitting a Pontos barrel to a kit gun; that went well... not. Decided to go with the kit parts.
The kit parts have had some added detail from some Pontos bits.
The shielded 3" guns fitted on one Gangway.
One Pontos 47mm built, kit shield beside it.
Test fitting.
No glue, so it is a bit droopy, but it will work.
More soon.

It is a pity Mark, well for the 3", but as they are sitting behind shields, no too much of a disaster. At least I will be able to use the 47mm.

Hi Gaz,
It really depends if I can add the railing prior to painting I do, take a look at my HMS Eskimo 1940 build, the railings are going first there. On this one they have to fit around etched deck sections, or wood deck, so they go on much later and then I pre-paint them, I just have to careful with the glue.

Detail painted and assembled.
Fitted to the Gangways.
The four boats that sit on the Gangway.

The detail on the steam launch is a little basic & shallow, but paints up ok.
Gangway boats in place.
On with the upper bridges next.

One think I haven't come to a conclusion on yet as to the colour of the masts, the box art and the colour plan shows the to be a yellow / buff (which I will admit is tempting, and would fit in with the IJN's British links of the period) but I have also heard and seen light grey or white.

This weekend's progress.
Started work on the fore bridge.
First the destruction.
The kit parts as moulded.
detail removed.
The gouges will be covered with a wood deck.
The underside and the etch to cover it.
I have started to fold the structure.
Structure going on the underside.
done, ready to receive for the framework that supports it.
