Didn't get time to post this yesterday, last weekend's progress.
The ladders for the lower sections of the masts.
The kit derrick parts, well one of the two sets.
Fitted to the masts.
At this stage they can still swing, so they can be positioned to clear the funnels and their stays.
test fitting.
The booms have now been fixed, the painted, along with the ladders. The masts have been secured in place.
Making the stays.
because I am using a thicker wire, it is easier to make them in three sections.
the stay assembled.
Lower stays being fitted to the fore & main masts.
All done.
The stays may need thickening up with a little paint.
next, the searchlights for the bridge-wings and the upper mast platforms, and 47mm guns for the lower platforms.

It was "fun" working out to build the stays with the heavier wire. I am pleased with the result, and they are not as difficult as they might look.
There are another eight to go each mask on from just below the lower top.

Busy time, finally found some time to sit down post last weekend's small update.
Some time a go, when I was building the bridge, I put together and painted the Navigation lights, put them away and forget about them.
Found them when I was looking for something else.
Now fitted in place.
The next job, the searchlights, a total of six.
The etched and turned brass pedestals and the resin lamps.
etch going on the lamp.
the main assembly of the searchlight done.
The Pontos searchlight compared to the kit parts.
Test fitted on the Bridgewing.

As usual with Pontos, they are not as tricky to get together as they look, they still have a lens and an etched rim for to to be fitted.
A single piece injection moulded component is always going to look a second rate compared to the finesse of brass & resin, but to fair they are ok with a bit of added detait from scrape tch.

I agree, Si, the kit part doesn't look too bad on its own...but that Pontos assembly is really striking! It is well worth the extra effort, IMHO

great work, she's coming along very nicely!! Splendid PE work and fantastic details on top - I second what Tim says, even if they are most probably pretty fiddly, those searchlight stand out! They're worth the effort!

Hi Jan,
They went together with a lot less fuss than I thought they would, but larger scale, the smallest parts are easier to handle and the design meant no fussy curving of delicate parts.
Very well designed indeed.

As promised, a bit more searchlight action.
All six searchlights built, sans lens and its outer ring.
Basic paint job, the bridge wing lights are white, and the pair for the mast platforms are the dark yellow.
The insides painted citadel "Grey nights steel".
Lenses and front rings fitted.
Fitting in place.
Overview.
That was last weekend.
Got the 47mm built and fitted today, will get that posted soon.

Those ladder rungs on the mast add a lot as well. Layer by layer, you are putting together something special!
